I have owned a JS100 before and loved it but do you think I would love a 550 more. Has anyone got any experience with both?
-
well, i haven't tried the js100, but it has a cr@ppy trem, made in korea, while the 550 is made in japan and has an awesome trem.

scroll down to the js100 bit. Note it says "cheap guitars- avoid them!".
get an rg550.
:D
EDIT: although you already have a js100. I think the neck profile is different. the js's have a vintage type neck, the rg's is wider, bigger frets, more for shred. So, although it's technically a "better" guitar (better construction, parts and wood), you might not like its "feel".

Well the necks are a big difference between the two. The RG has a very thin and wide neck with nice big frets. It's very comfortable for shredding and stuff. The JS has a vintage like neck which you can shred on still, but you'll have that fender/gibson like feel.

Could you change a RG550 to be H,S,S?
-
Yeah i should think so. A new scratch plate and a bit of wiring and that would be it
-
I'd go for the RG, better value for money and such.
You pay for the name with the JS.

Or if you're OK with a Rosewood board you could get an RG560 which is H-S-S anyway. The 550 only came with a maple board.
