Title: Nailbomb and Holydiver
Post by: puttyz on December 21, 2014, 07:36:57 PM
Hi guys! New to the forum.

I have been interested in bare knuckle pickups for a while now and I have been pondering if it would work putting a nailbomb bridge pickup with a holydiver neck. Or would it be better to just get a set of nailbomb/holydivers.

Much regards
Steven

What sound are you after first? and what guitar and amp?

Important question, what tuning will you be using?

I'm looking for something versatile but more towards rocky/metal. The guitar is an ibanez rg hooked up to a Marshall Jvm 205h

Well Nailbombs are aggressive, whilst Holy Divers are smooth. I love the description of the Nailbomb, but for some reason, when I listen to it I always get a 90s thrash sort of vibe from them which puts me off. I was after the same sort of sound as you, and I decided on the Rebel Yells. I was interested in the Holy Diver, but I found the Rebel Yell seemed to possess the qualities I love from my Duncan JB, more. Check the Rebel Yells out. It does the Hard Rock sound very well, and it's tight enough for metal. Red Seas Fire's album was recorded with a Rebel Yell/VHII combo, if you want to check that out.

For your neck pickup, it really depends on the bridge you pick, and what you're exactly after tone wise

The Nailbomb sounds like Sepultura.  It does other things, but that pretty much sums it up

Nailbomb sounds awesome through more vintage voiced amps.

I have to agree with that statement. I run mine CBomb through Orange Dual Terror (at home) and Marshall JCM 900 combo at in the practice room and to be honest I like it a bit more through Marshall.
On the other hand CBomb in my eyes shines with more vintage overdrive (like my Wampler Plexidrive or amp`s overdrive). Yes, it adds aggression and some modern twist but that`s what I love about that pickup.

On the downside, there`re better bridge pickups for lead parts (Holydiver e.g) and cleans are just ok.

Yeah man the holy diver in my RG through a blackstar really nails the rust in peace sound.
But the rebel yell I replaced lacked punch in the bass.
I am trialling a miracle man for 90's thrash etc in an RG as well but so far I have made my mind up.
I did have the ceramic nailbomb which I actually miss now I have the miracle man.
Weirdly I do like the mm cleans.

Have an alnico and a ceramic nailbomb each in a LP, bridge position. Sounds great, clear, responsive and very thick! Haven't tried Holydiver to comment though.
