have an opportunity to get one of these two bridge pickups. I'm seeing reviews that can steer me in both directions, so I figured I'd check with you guy.
my preference is 80s hard rock, but I like to get guitars and pickups that can be pretty versatile. as such, I haven't decided what sort of rig this might go in to, other than definitely 25.5" scale bolt-on and definitely tuned to E standard.
I'm a big fan of the RY and I like the VHII. I didn't care of the soft highs of the HD. my typical taste is something clear/transparent, open, controlled/defined lows, mid-range bump, and plenty of highs. tapped and pinched harmonics have to jump out.
the concerns are that it appears some think the AM is too modern and the A-Bomb is too thick.
any thoughts?
thanks!!

That sounds more like a Rebel Yell.
The RY does need the guitar to be fairly bass acoustically though, as it doesn't provide a lot of bass of its own.

yeah, I already have a few of those.
I have access to buy an AM or an A-Bomb, so I'm trying to narrow down the options between those.

In that case the A-Bomb is the better bet

Nailbomb would probably be more versatile, just.

very cool. thanks.
does anyone know if the magnet in the C-Bomb is a regular sized ceramic?...as opposed to a thicker one?

The C-Bomb has a big ceramic Darth, I'm not sure you'd dig it. It kinda reminds me of a 500T. I've never heard it with an A5, but I'll bet that's more your thing.
The Aftermath, I think I can safely say you won't like it either.

I think you are right on both accounts.
The RY and VHII have worked out well for me. The HD, not so much. Just looking for options to expand the field a bit while still having the core of what works for me.
The Black Dog has been looking like an interesting option.

Rebel Yell is bright, mids, and a beautiful harmonic sheen. Tonnes of clear, open crunch. It's a very 'consonant' sounding pickup.
The A-Bomb is hairy, angry, and more 'dissonant sounding. They're more the same than different, but the A-Bomb is warmer, thicker, more gnarly, and the pickup tends to have a bit phatter of a bottom with more emphasis in the treble instead of the upper mids and harmonics. It's a great sounding pickup but I'm curious how you will jive with it.
Incidentally, Rebel Yell Bridge / VHII neck combo is phenomenal. I love it!

Painkiller or black dogs
