Title: CS bridge vs MM bridge. How similar are they?
Post by: Lucas on January 11, 2015, 10:11:51 PM
Hi, just being curious, how similar are Cold Sweat and Miracle Man bridge models?
As far as I can read here, both pickups share same tonal traits and apparently are quite similar to each other. How much?

thanks a lot.

miracle man sounds bassier, darker voiced on the midrange and more modern, with fatter pinch harmonics and thicker rhythm tone
cold sweat has less low mids and more present center and upper mids
I think the cold sweat sounds more articulate, like a hotter and more aggressive version of the vhII

cheers,

and what about the lead tone, which one better copes with lead stuff?
and how leads look like with each of them?

I wouldn't say one has any advantage over the other in that aspect
both can deliver great lead tones
I love the king's x/pantera-like sharp lead tone of the cold sweat, but I like the modern approach of the miracle man as well

thanks a lot Erik!

so generally speaking they are quite different pickups overall, even that often CS is recommended as a substitute for MM in darker sounding guitars.

Towards the end of the paragraph.

thanks a lot!

so correct me if Im wrong, MM and CS are coming out from the same idea but in two different ways, same as Nailbomb and RY? Would comparison with ABomb and RY would be proper?
Would CS to MM be the same as ABomb to RY?

depends on the interpretation, but yes, you could say that
I actually think the miracle man gets closer to the John Sykes ballpark than the cold sweat
the cold sweat has a more articulate and refined approach, which reminds me a lot of Ty Tabor lead tones on King's X "Dogman" album
you can tell the basic differences from the website clips
