I'm thinking of pulling my old Strat apart and going for a humbucker and p90 combo. My start has an alder body rosewood neck.
I was thinking of a HB in the bridge and p90 at the neck. I'm looking for a hot vintage vibe and the ability to coil split. I'm familiar with Seymour Duncan's Custom 5 TB-14 and SP90-1 and I was woundering whick BKPs are similar BUT have a much more earthy / woody tone?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

crawler or black dog in the bridge...Nantucket in the neck. Thats what id choose personally atleast. I havent used the crawler but id lean more towards that due to the rosewood neck and what i've read about it. The black dogs i played were awesome and dynamic, but were in a maple bodied guitar with a maple neck, so im not sure how theyd perform with a rosewood neck.

Yeah, a Crawler and a Nantucket-neck could be a good choice. The Crawler has still a reasonable amount of PAF-flavour and performs really well in alder bolt-on guitars. It's juicy, thick and keeps weight above the 12th freth. It growls like a bear when pushed, yet cleans up very nice. It's a warm sounding pickups, but has enough topend to show teeth, don't worry about that in a strat. The Crawler also splits superb. You get a tele-esque tone when splitted.
The Holy Diver will provide a more contemporary tone. It delivers 80's hairmetal in spades. It's not as full as the Crawler, but has strong mids and provides creamy solotones.

I have a Crawler with 2 BKP P-91's in my PRS EG. The new equivalent of the P-91 is probably the Nantucket (I have a set of them too, so know the sound). The Crawler/P-90 combo is a great sound. I got these from Tim back in 2004 and have never felt the need to mess with the set up since.
