Got the MMs and Trilogy, wired according to this schematic, but only getting sound in first, second, and last postion on 5 way. Any suggestions? :?
-
Brought it in to get it wired. I gave up after day 2
-
had similar problem..not that wiring.....but with a 5 way.....had caught a bit of solder (in the wrong place) but was hard to see on the damn 5 way I have
-
I had a second one and tried wiring it again and it still wasn't sounding right. Had to pack it in after day 2.

The diagram looks fine, but your switch may have the lugs arranged differently to the diagram! It's usually a good idea to meter the switch contacts to check they are the same as the diagram.

 I guess if I knew what that meant I wouldn't have had a problem. Probably best that I brought it in to get done.

ok
If you have the open style 5 way switch.
On one side of the switch
Look to see which of the tags has the long contact thaat is always in contact with the cental track that is moved by the lever switch
this is the output tag and should be connected to the input of the volume control
the other 3 are the tags to connect the pickups to.
On the other side of the switch - the side that does the clever coil tap bit
The long tag is the only one that is NOT used
The other 3 are used for the coil tapping with the centre one of the 3 being connected to the back of the pot as the earth contact.
Does that help

Thanks Jonathan, that does help. On the first switch I put in it looks like I soldered that tag on both sides when it only should've been on the one for volume  I think that's the piece of the puzzle I was missing. I already dropped it off to get it done, but my next wiring job should be more successful. Thanks again.

don't solder the ends on until you got sound, just poke the end in the holes, and check it each time.
