OK, like the thread title says ... has a Cold Sweat bridge got a bigger bottom end than a Rebel Yell bridge?
-
Can't say myself, but i do have a RY in a Les Paul and there is not a huge amount of bottom end in it.
From clips i have heard of the CS, i would assume that there is a fair bit of bass in it, also the CS sounds slightly scooped in the mids.
-
Yes.

Rebel Yell has a very tight, high, tapered, and open sounding bottom. It works a lot like a high pass filter on a guitar, which is why it is so suitable to low mid and bass focused guitars that require clarity and brilliance to balance their tone. It's also great with modern, dark, compressed, saturated, and low mid heavy modern high gain tones.

I find this video to be a pretty good representation of the Cold Sweat bridge humbucker

I don't have a Rebel Yell set to compare it to, but the following clip is pretty representative of what I have heard of RYs online:

Cheers guys, I've already got a RY set (and A-bomb, Crawler, Mule and VHii sets) and was wondering how the CS compared to the RY as I've seen it described as being similar to an RY with a ceramic magnet. My only concern would be that my only previous experience of a ceramic powered passive was a Duncan Distortion and I found that too fizzy.
-
It's not fizzy. If it has any characteristic that might be considered negative, it can be a bit 'crispy' sounding in the highs
-
The Cold Sweat has more bass but it's a nice surgically tight bass, whilst as said the Rebel Yell is light on the bass (was designed for Steve Stevens to sit easily in the Billy Idol band mix with a bass player and a Keyboard player).

I was only really just having an "I wonder" moment; I play with a similar setup (5 string bass, lots of sequenced and live keyboard parts, etc) and I was just wondering what the CS might be like but I'll probably stick to the RY set in that guitar as it sounds like the CS might be too metallic (ie. crispy) at the top end anyway. I find that the VHii, Crawler, A-Bomb and RY assortment covers pretty much all the bases that I need but was just curious about the CS.
Thanks again for all of your contributions.

Throw those BKP in your member signature, you would look like a veteran.

Well I am not one for ceramic magnets much, but the CS still is on my want list. From all I gathered over time it sounds like it has none of the downfall of ceramics, being extremely organic. Definetly something I want in a LP since everything points towards it really not sounding ceramic in the dreaded sense. More like a differently defined alnico with more scooped mids. I am very optimistic on that one still.
BKPs in the signature...that reminds me that I need more guitars to get my sidelines going again.

I almost bought a used SM set last week even though i have no guitar for them.

Welcome to the addict club then. I would do the same for a PG, Bluenote, Pig90, PAT 63, Boss, and Country Boy I recon. And a J 60 PE set, though I actually have something for that.

It's like an alnico pickup that can do Dimebag, basically.

Im finding plenty of bass with the RY in the clarity I hear the low end now. Not saying its a bass heavy pup but its tight and defined. It chugs palm muting very well and with some good gain on a tube amp the low end sounds big. I can't say anything on the CS tho my experience with ceramic pups the low end seems to be a more bloomed ballooned affair.
