I picked it up real cheap with a view to refretts and refinnish practice.
When I got there my eyes nearly fell out of my head.
I paid my fifty dollars and ran.

Unless someone has removed the Gibson logo (which would be VERY peculiar) this looks like a rather accurate Jap copy of the Les Paul Recording model (built by Gibson from the early seventies), complete with low-impedance PU's. Because this particular model wasnt much in vogue later I suspect the copy to be from the same era.
Is the neck glued in or bolt-on? Couldn't quite tell from the pic.

So far I found out Ibanez made one in the early seventies, see http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data4/Ibanez/2372_Les_Paul_Recording_Copy-1.html for owners comments (only superlatives as älways on HC )
I checked the Ibanez register and out came the "2372 Les Paul Recorder" made pre-75. Looks alot like yours, although other brands might have made something similar.

No I'm not just a shy guy that's blushing behind his monitor right now  Anyway thx I could be of any help.
From the Ibanez description and your pic I sorta guessed it would be a bolt-on. Isn't there any reference to the maker, maybe a painted over headstock logo or inscriptions/stickers on the PU's or electronics? There might be more info in the neck cavity if you take the neck off, although please be careful you can reset it the way it was (including replacement of any shims you might encounter).

I've seen a few of these over the years, with different names on.
Oddly enough, I have seen a couple with severly warped tops...

Yup, looks like an Ibanez Les Paul Recording. Sweet, and rare!

2x Uber Sinners....
Walk into a Jazz bar, plug into small 1x12 valve combo, melt peoples faces :D

The jazz snobs would not like that!
EDIT: actually, they would probably hate it at first and then twenty years later, hear it, say they always liked it and appreciated it's boundary breaking styles...

Theres a guitar kicking about Belfast very like this one, which repeatity appears in the local Crack (cash) Convertors (atleast 3 times over the lsat 3 years), the only diffrence is it has aluminium fittings and a gibson badge on the headstock.

For them to appreciate it you would either have to suffer some horrible dissability that prevents you from playing anymore or die for jazzers to appreciate it.
Basically it's only worth it as an act of annoyance.
