Just a straight comparison really - has anybody ever been able to compare a Rebel Yell and Holy Diver bridge in the same guitar?
-
I'll let you know this as soon as my Holy Diver arrives. They're going in the same type of guitar (ESP Eclipse), but the HD is going in an Eclipse with a Floyd. But I guess that's close enough

I would say the HD feels fuller sounding overall with the extended mids. I think the HD can be bright in the right (or wrong) guitar if that is what you want. Also the HD would have a pinch more bottom end also.
I would love to try a HD in a mahogany Les Paul style guitar someday.

I haven't compared them in the same guitar, but have had a few HD's and a RY. In my experience I would say that the HD is smoother and warmer, whereas the RY is more angry! Both are well balanced but the HD is more low mid focused which contributes to the smoothness I think; the RY has more high mids and so has more presence and cuts through more. Personally I prefer the HD as I'm the only guitar player in my band so I don't need the high mids to cut through, and I prefer the warmer sound it gives. But for balls-out rock the RY is great (not that the HD isn't!)!

Let's just say Holy Diver in a bright Super Strat and Rebel Yell in a Dark lump of Mahogany axe.

I did this well over a year ago.

Yeah, they are quite different worlds.

Yes I have!
In an rg550. The rebel yell is the first I tried and it's a very lovely pick up indeed! Angry like a large wasp distorted, rich as hell with harmonic twinkles (over tones), really sensitive to picked(pinched?....whatever) harmonics. Very tight bass. A very good humbucker.
Holly Diver is also awesome! And the one I still have in the rg.
It's fatter than the ry in the bass slightly which fit my needs better.
A very aggressive tight but full growl and hits the rust in peace sound by megadeth right on the button. Listen to the holy wars intro....that is it! (Mustain uses a Seymour Duncan tb4 here). Not as rich in over tones as the rebel yell but still very sensitive to squealers!
At the time my set up was rather humble using a line 6 spider only the settings for the below clips are all identical.
Hope I helped! !

#1. thanks for the kind words.
#2. don't even remember. I do so much swapping around and it's been well over a year and most of that clip was more about learning the DAW software.
