Right, I know I've been saying for ages that I was gonna post a clip of my MM and warpig sets - finally got round to posting them  .
The MM set is in an Epi LP and the 'pigs are in a gothic Epi V (pics of both are in other threads somewhere.
I recorded the same riffs with each guitar and doubled them up - apologies for the sloppy playing/general lack of quality!
Recorded through a Marshall JMP1 straight into Cubase, no bass guitar (to try to make the tone of each pickup as clear as possible).
Enjoy - comments/critisism very welcome (be gentle!).
-
Great tones and cool riffing.I never heard a JMP1 sound so good!
-
Excellent clips. Brutal tones. I don't think the playing is sloppy at all.
-
I liked the clips, but the quality isnīt good enough i guess, but it worth the effort. cool riffs and Excellent modern brutal Drumming
AHAHAHAH loved it.
i liked the warpigs better.

What do you mean the quality isnt good enough? Please explain WFD!

The recording sound quality, not the riff wise.
-
Hey, thanks for recording the same riffs with both pickups! It's cool to be able to hear a direct comparison like that.
The Pigs have a huge sound, eh? And the MMs sound more beefy than I expected them to, next to the Warpigs. Hmm. I hope I'll be happy when I install my Warpig! All the damn clips of other pickups are making me doubt my purchase. ;)
Good playing, too!

Thanks for the comments guys.
I understand what you mean about the quality of the recording - all I really did was plug my JMP1 straight into my soundcard (although its a fairly good card) so there is no natural room/mic sound and the drums were a bit rushed. And I didn't use any production (compression etc..) on the mix (added a bit of top end so its wasn't too dull).
After having the 2 sets of pups for a while, I've realised that I would be happy with any set of BKPs, I still can't decide which set I prefer. I've found the MMs are prob a bit better for faster down-tuned picking (fear factory-esque) and the 'pigs are better for chunkier riffs (machine head-ish?).
Searcher - you will definitely by happy with a Warpig.
Steve - I have an old, old zoom processor in the fx loop of the JMP1 which makes a huge difference. Really give it more power.

Good work!! They sound brutally good :D Great riffing too, there's nothing wrong with your playing, your a good player! Good recording too, better than i can achive!
Can you hear much difference with the pups? They do sound quite similar to me in this clip. I'm sure they are very different though.
What did you use for the drums in cubase?
Edit yes i can hear the difference now, the warpigs have a bigger bottom end. I want some now!
-
Impressive stuff - sometimes I think about going over to the dark side( i.e. getting a guitar with h/bs).
-
nice tones, where about in leeds u from? I live in leeds im at LCM.
-
Nice one Maxingwell. Excellently done stuff, and it really does show the difference between the two pickups. Im guessing both were done with the same patch?
Keep up the good work!!
JamesHealey: How is LCM, what you doing there at the moment. Im hopefully going to be going there this year ( Sept ) for Music Production. How do you find it?
-
Really cool chops dude. Great sound. The Pig isn't quite as abbrasive as I thought it would be and the MM really cuts through. Mmmmmmm
-
Thanks so much for the comparison clips. I prefer the Warpigs sound in this example, and it's great to hear how much difference the pickup can make.
Now, if my Nailbomb would finally come in...
-
You make it so hard to decide between the two!
Good clips BTW.
-
What did you use for the drums in cubase?
I use Battery using various samples (from sample CDs and albums where I can grab a single drum hit from). I like battery because 1) its simple to use and 2) you can edit each sample within Battery.

I live in Rodley now. I went to LMU/LCM (about 7ish years ago). I did a degree in Music Tech. The course was really bad but the facilities at LCM where quite good when we were able to use them. The studios got booked up quicker though when more courses started to use them.
Im guessing both were done with the same patch?
Yes - each clip used the same patch. I tihnk I used a more distorted tone on the left side (OD2) and slightly less so on the right side (OD1) but it was the same for each clip.
I think the easiest way to describe the differences between the 2 set of pups is that the MMs have more 'cut' and the pigs have more 'grunt' (if that makes any sense?!).

Great clips man. Just reinforces my love for my warpig. What I really want to hear though is some neck pickup leads, I really need some help deciding on what to get for the neck spot in my epi black beauty. If you could do that I'd really appreciate it.
-
awesome dude! that sounded great. htat is the best ive heard a jmp1 sound.
btw could you send me those clips i would love to hear how they osund in my studio.

No probs - PM me your email address and I'll send them over.
-
Both those clips sounded great.
The question is... Do you think they would make a good combination?
And where would they go?
Warpig in the Bridge and Miracle Man in the Neck or the other way round?
That poses a question doesnt it

hmm this riffs seem similar to one of my songs and the tone is quite similar to the original recording witha guitar port.

Everyone who plays chugging riffs can say the same thing haha
I like the MM best here, the bass just sets it out in your face. The Pigs melt into the mix much better though, and they make the song more natural, so it would be a better compositional set of pups to me.
-
I find the MM better. But i like to hear them both. The combination is perfect! So in a 2 guitar player band ,this kind of combination can be really orgasmic!
Nice playing and nice rythm bro!Thanx for the clips!

You know i hate ceramics anyway ;)
I have a ceramic in the neck of my RG550 and i just can't get on with it...
Isnt the warpig Alinco 5 by default?
I think im going to get a RG7321 and get a warpig-7 but... warpig in basswood? would it work well or have a loose bottom end?

i doubt it would be horribly loose but a ceramic would help tighten it up lol.
and yeah its A5 by default.
They should make a alnico miracle man...

They DO make if you just ask
they can do just about anything you want
