My Line 6 G50 has bitten the dust after five years of service so need a new wireless system.
Like the look of the new Relay G70, but the delivery date has been pushed back till end next month.
I've got a gig this weekend and am tempted just to get the Shure system, which also looks spot on.
So, as per title?

Neither! Stick with a cable!
(but honestly, do you really NEED a wireless unit?)

Due the ahem, nature of our live act, I need a wireless setup, so with that debate off the table, which wireless?

Your Line 6 G50 has died after 5 years? shite, I've owned mine for nearly 2 and its never given me any problems so far.
Sennheiser G3 do good ones but its almost double the amount of a Line 6. Also fiddly with frequencies and all that.
Didn't know Line 6 were bringing out a G70 either, what's with the "in-between" G50-G90 ones as well, there's not much difference between a G55 and a G50.

Apparently (according to our sound guy) these systems have a limited life, and 5 years is about right.
Right enough, after years of being rock solid it started dropping out just before Christmas, and now it's more like it drops in occasionally.
The G70/75 is a redesign, and looks quite cool with some new features. I was planning on holding out based on the new switching capabilities of the G70, but a cheap A/B switch will do the same job, and the Shure automatic channel selection feature looks like it would provide reliable performance.

Wow, I best get the most use out of it for the next 3 years then!
I've never had a drop out at a show before, the red audio signal light flashes on the the receiver a lot but there's no loss in sound. Maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones who gets more than 5 years out of it.
Alot of signed artists use Shure so if its good enough for them then go for it, Line 6 do good digital stuff though such as Pod's and Wirelesses.

Actually I`ve read loads of good things about Shure GLX-D16.
-rechargeable battery
-no wireless channel license fee (if it`s required in your country)
if would be getting wireless system it definitely would be Shure GLX-D16 over Line 6.

I've had a sennheiser G3 for several years with out any problems. In fact we have 4 in the band, vocal, bass and 2 guitars and not one has let us down. However, they do like to eat batteries so weird use lithium ones which can end up being a bit pricey. I don't recall how much we paid and how they compare to the alternatives.

Thanks for replies, I ordered the Shure system and it arrived today. Really nicely built. Feels a lot sturdier than the G50. Sounds great too. Even better than a lead.
