Title: Mules & Feedback
Post by: Jenna on March 24, 2006, 03:21:57 PM
I have a pair of Mules fitted to my Ibanez SZ1220.  They sound awesome, in fact they've transformed the guitar!  So much more clarity than the stock pickups.

The only problem I'm suffering is feedback.  I assume this is partly due to the fact that the pickups aren't wax potted?

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions on reducing feedback?  Does pickup height have an impact?

BTW: I'm using a Brunetti Maranello valve amp.

Chris.

I think all Bareknuckles are wax potted to get rid of feedback. Maybe your pickups are too close to the strings? Have you checked its not one of the valves in your amp (if it is a valve amp)?

Tom's right - all BKPs are wax potted - however, Amp settings often have to be adjusted with BKPs - I don't know why, perhaps because they are so responsive to dynamics, maybe give your amp a bit of adjustment.

Are they covered or open coil?

Thanks for the responses.  I thought they weren't wax potted because it didn't mention it in the pickup description (most others seem to state it).

I'll have tweak with my amp settings and pickup height (I've already lowered them a bit) to see if that helps.

My Mules are Open Coiled.

If you still have problems you can always send them back for a second wax potting!

Another cause of microphonic squeals can be poor wiring and loose shielding tape inside a guitar, worth checking the guts of the guitar to make sure it's all net and tidy. If you're using a lot of gain and playing near the amp these problems are more evident!

If it is microphony mail them back to me and I'll repot.............another source of squealing can be a preamp valve on the go so worth checking that out too.
