Title: Ordering more BKPs...input appreciated
Post by: darthphineas on March 26, 2015, 02:12:02 AM
My local BKP dealer called to say he's placing an order and I'm going tomorrow to get in on the action.

I'm pretty certain about getting a Cold Sweat bridge for an Epi LP...mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood board.

I've been eyeballing the Emerald neck, as I think it would work well in many of my neck hum applications, especially on my super strat types.

For a third option, I was thinking about another neck hum option. I was thinking about a HSP90 like the Nantucket's EQ profile, but I'd like a touch more contemporary/modern voice. I'm also kicking around the VHII neck, the Riff Raff neck, the CS neck and the Rebel Yell neck. This would most likely be going in the same LP mentioned above. Wanting something with a tight low end punch and edgy focused highs. A little of the tasty vintage tone with a lot of the roar and output of a more contemporary modern tone...that will clean up nice on a clean amp setting when put in split or parallel.

Does anything sound close?

Thanks!

sounds like a neck vhII, but it's still on the overwound PAF ballpark
if you really want something hot, modern and focused, the neck painkiller might be worth a look

Wanting something with a tight low end punch and edgy focused highs would be more the Riff Raff. The CS is not so tight in the bass department neck wise.

On what Eric said before me about the Painkiller, i have a PK bridge paired with a RR neck and suprisingly, they actually work quite well together.

I've been directed to the VHII neck previously.  I have the VHII bridge in a basswood Charvel and it's definitely tight and bright.

the RR neck has been tempting, I've been curious about how it's categorized as vintage.  is it going to have enough push to drive 80s/90s rock/metal/shred?

thanks for the help.

for now, I ordered:

Cold Sweat bridge
VHII neck
Emerald neck

also started to discuss a build with a local builder that I hope will lead to a good fit for other BKP models I've yet to try.  considering a sapele or mahogany back, 5-A or master grade maple top (undecided on flamed, curly or quilt), maple neck, gaboon ebony board, Floyd with titanium saddles, and brass or titanium block.
