Title: Are we making guitar players more lazy now?
Post by: CommonCourtesy on March 26, 2015, 03:29:21 PM
Just seen this:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1563579549/hand-chord-anyone-can-play-guitar-who-knew

'Hand chord' which enables players to fret chords easier. Is this taking away the whole the skill of being able to play barre chords? Or is it another method to bring newcomers into playing as soon as they can?

With all the modern technology, apps, software and etc its becoming more accessible for people to learn the guitar and make music. You got those Rock School games or whatever its called, bit like Guitar Hero. Now anyone thinks they can play, but what happened to months of callouses, finger pain and blisters? The hard graft involved to get better, and the rewarding moment when you play your first tune after months of practice?

But at the same is it making people lazy by not honing their craft and being good technically?

That hand chord-thingy idea is the dumbest thing I've heard about since the man who made his own bungee rope from shorter ropes.

maybe it will attract more people to learning guitar.. when they realise the massive limitations of the clips they might be motivated enough by then to learn properly..?

well, i won't be buying one, but maybe theres a place for such a thing

As a guitar tutor it makes me angry that these stupid things are being made. Yes it might be seen as a "learning aid" but as mentioned there will be restrictions and technique will actually suffer.

If you're not motivated enough to learn to play with your fingers then why do it in the first place.
