I have a USA Lonestar fender strat, it has a seymour duncan pearly gates in the bridge and two texas specials, which pick up set would make my guitar more beefier sounding, I like the sound of my mates les paul studio but prefer to play my strat, any suggestions.

I have recently replaced my texas specials and dimarzio paf pro to a BKP NAilbomb humbucker and 2 Mothers Milk single coils in my us strat. The difference is night and day. And the balance across all 3 in superb. I have demos in the players room of each pickup, it may help.Steve.

As well as sticking BKPs in there, if you like his LP sound but the feel of your strat you'd be closer to it if you had a mahogany body made, it wouldn't cost too much I imagine. You'd still have the neck you like playing on, but the different wood would help quite a bit. At least I think so, there's proper luthiers around here who know all the technical razmatazz far better than I so it's probably best to wait around and ask them too :lol: .

Hi Marco, welcome to the forum.
I have a Pearly Gates in the bridge position of my Tele. I still think it's quite a good pickup. If you like the PG but jusy want a bit more muscle, maybe you should try the Riff Raff. If you want something that's close to the Les Paul sound the Mule might be the answer. The Riff Raff however will complement the texas specials better, I think. You'll have to considder the volume difference between the pickups. If you want to change the single coils as well, you should go for the Irish Tours, kinda like the Texas Specials but better.

Thanks for that guys, is it worth changing just the bridge pearly gates and the neck texas special and leaving the texas special in the middle as the two texas specials are exact sounding to stevie ray, or will I still get a stevie ray sound with the Irish tours, i dont use a stevie ray sound that much but its there when I need it, I tend to play more rock, decisions, desicions.

Personally i would change the lot, you would only change the single coils later on after hearing the new humbucker. The Irish Tours are not just stevie ray, they are also great using alot of gain.

If you choose to swap the Texas Specials for Irish Tours, you might want to combine them wit a Crawler in the bridge. It will give a Les Paulish kind of sound to your Strat.
I know, I'm throwing yet another option in the mix :wink:

So I think I am sold on the Irish tours, so its the choice of the nailbomb or the crawler, which is it to be, having heard both demos of these pick ups, what do you think guys you have them on your guitars already and I do not, your advise is much needed.

I have had both the crawler and currently the Nailbomb on my strat. I think they are both great but what tipped it for me was the nailbomb's tone is deeper and thicker with more gain, ideal for a strat with a floyd rose. Both are very versatile with great cleans tones.

After hearing your demo I think I am sold on your set up, I just need to practise more now to make it sound like you, but i am awesome on sax so at least I have that, cheers

Do you think I should keep hold of the guitars original pick ups, the two texas specials & pearly gates, if i ever did decide to sell it would it be worth more with original pick ups.

Saxophone is a tricky instrument, respect is due. A real gimmick would be to gig with both, do a blazing guitar solo then quickly switch to the sax, the birds would luv ya. Try the HSS set you will like them alot, and yes hold on to your original pickups.

I always do that for my guitars when I swap out pickups. Not that my guitars are worth all that much :D
