So you are in your first pub rock band and you want to put together a set of 10 songs that the punter's know and love and thus won't beat you up and steal your gear.
Oh and you have to be able to play the songs you list! - at least to pub rock standard.
What will it be?
For me:
1. ACDC - Whole Lotta Rosie (maybe a bit of corner skipping with the solo)
2. Thin Lizzy - Whisky in the Jar
3. Doors - Light My Fire
4. Cream - Sunshine of your Love
5. Buffalo Springfield - For what its worth
6. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
7. The Jam - That's Entertainment
8. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
9. Mott the Hoople - All the Young Dudes
10. GnR - Sweet Child of Mine
Encore (i do not mean the make of guitar you will be playing in the Nag's Head): Led Zepplin - Whole Lotta Love
-
I'm in a covers band at the minute and am trying to convince em to play more rock songs. At the minute we do a lot of shite like Oasis and REM, apparently the crowd like it but its so boring to play! The new bassist wants to do more rock songs though so I guess me and him will try and get the others to be less boring :P
The drummer did suggest some Led Zep though so thats a start..

Hmmmmmm,
1. AC/DC - Back in Black
2. Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard
3. Paradise City - Guns n Roses
4. Crazy Train - Ozzy
5. Living After Midnight - Judas Priest
6. Get It On - Kingdom Come ver.
7. Cold Sweat - Thin Lizzy
8. Gimme Some Lovin' - Thunder ver.
9. Love Potion No.9 - Tygers of Pan Tang
10. Velvet Revolver - Slither
Encore - Acoustic!
Lola and Pinball Wizard and Hush
oops, gotta be able to play em ya say :) Well only taken lessons 3 months but got most of these to "pub" standard (maybe not the soloing though! ;)).

Lenny Kravitz - Are you gonna go my way
I can't get enough of your love (can't remember who's song that is)
Hush, the Kula Shaker version
Some Status Quo stuff
Metallica - Enter Sandman as an encore
All simple stuff that just seems to work great.

I wish more people in pubs here liked rock, so our band could play more rocky songs and be liked. All these setlists are awesome compared to what we do
-
I know what you mean - Pub Blues for some reason seems to be more on the money, which is strange because more people like rock than blues.

Heh, well I just got back from playing a 1 hour set at a bar (We'll play 3 sets Friday and Saturday). Here's what we played:
Zero - Smashing Pumpkins
Jesus of Suburbia - Greenday
Prisoner of Society - The Living End
Epic - Faith No More
I Disappear - Metallica
Remedy - Seether
Only - Nine Inch Nails
Creep - Radiohead
Cadillac Ranch - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Schism - Tool
99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger version
For Whom The Bell Tolls - Metallica
Sleep Now In The Fire - Rage Against The Machine
Bullet With Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins
We're fortunate enough to be able to play some pretty heavy stuff at this bar, and it goes over bigtime.

That is not so bad Tom. In our band we all put forward our favourite songs and the idea was that if we loved playing them then we'd just get good very quickly. We started from the ground up about 8 months ago and the punters seem to love us so it seems to have worked.
-
We always find that there is a difference in opinion between what the band wants to play and what the punters like to hear!
