Title: Alnico 8 magnet into an alnico 5 nailbomb?
Post by: Chazzy on April 30, 2015, 10:47:43 PM
Has anyone every tried this, i know that the ceramic tightens the nailbomb and makes it a little more metal, i find my alnico nailbomb not aggressive enough, but would like to try something different than ceramic, what would be the differences between alnico 8 and 5 in the nailbomb?

sounds like a terrible idea
I tried this with the holy diver like 7-8 years ago
I got the tightness and extra output I wanted, but the tone was kinda poor
it sounded very dry and the lead tone was awful

I had both alnico 5 nailbomb and ceramic nailbomb in the same guitar
the ceramic version is much more organic than you would expect after having the alnico version
no need for mad science, although I'm usually partial to unconventional experimentation

It would be tighter and drier. Depending on the thickness of the magnet it could also increase the low end and low mids. I find that A8 pickups work best in basswood guitars and work especially well in hybrid pickups with an a8/ceramic combo. Best of both worlds with the negatives of neither.
