Title: Schecter KM-7 - Yet another pickup thread...again...once more.
Post by: keywork87 on June 24, 2015, 11:06:34 PM
Ok guys, I need the wisdom of the Forum once more.

I recently acquired a KM-7 with a Pegasus/Sentient combo in it. I was really excited for the Pegasus and had nothing but the highest hopes for it. So far, however, it has been fairly frustrating to get what I want out of it. The low B sounds like utter garbage. Period. I'm running it through an Axe FX II into an Atomic CLR and no matter the preset or a fair amount of tweaking, it never clears up. I put new strings on, and adjusted the pickup up, down, halfway, and a bunch of places in between. The other 6 strings don't seem near as bad, so I can't see it being a wiring issue. Also has a 500K pot in it.

If anyone has more suggestions, I am open to them. But at this point I'm pretty set on a new set. I really am not a fan of the sentient in the neck either. It's very clear to my ears and the low B comes through fine. But I like my neck pickup to have a certain deep boom to it. Makes ambient sounds ring out and solos sound nice and thick like I like. The Sentient so far has failed to deliver on that front, clarity notwithstanding.

Guitar is Swamp Ash w/ Flame Maple top. 3 pc Maple neck with Ebony fretboard. My biggest need for the bridge is obviously clarity across all the strings. The sound I'm going for is that Misha (I know, another fanboy ) "Djenty" tone that he's known so well for, so the Juggs come to mind immediately. I've also had my eyes on Black Hawks for a long time and this could be as good a time as any to try them. But what it comes down to is still clarity and string separation.

I've already stated what I'm looking for in the neck, but I'll probably get a matching set to go with the bridge. So whichever set best encompasses what I'm looking for in both positions will probably win the battle.

If you guys think something else would work better, throw out some suggestions. Sorry for the long post btw.
