Hello people! How are you??
Have been a long while since I've posted here so far.
Cheers!
-
hey Fernando,
Good luck with the politics!
Things are a bit quiet here these days, after a few system crashes I think alot of the action has gone to facebook and other guitar forums.
Personally things are quite ok with me. I keep having accidents(!) but actually life goes well.
-
Fernando! Good to hear from you.
Yeah, what gwEm says... It's a lot quieter than the old days on here, but I'm watching a little bit most days, and occasionally post something.
Blame it all on Philly (I think he still lurks too) - when he stopped posting every 5 minutes or so, we all went a bit quiet!
I have a feeling that a lot of the old posters are still watching (like I am) - but can't get the energy up to say anything like we used to.
There's quite a few new names since you were last here. They post some really good stuff - I think us oldies just sit back and watch them getting on with it!

Hi Fernando, welcome back. I think that we're all just getting tired of answering the same questions
-
Good to hear from you guys! Miss you guys!

Hey Fernando- good to hear from you. I think Andy is spot on and many of us are still around but FB does seem to be the primary mover. Currently I am busy playing, writing and looking after Mrs 38th who unfortunately suffered a stroke recently but she is on the mend.
Still loving my BKP's and using them constantly.

Oh geesh. It might not mean much to her, but I think I speak on behalf of all of us here in wishing her a speedy recovery. We may only have heard about her through your, usually buying related, antics, but through that we have still come to like her a lot. All the best!
-
Thanks she will be touched. She was always aware of my antics but , bless her, never judgemental. She is a bit philosophical nowadays after the stroke and keeps saying , if you want it, get it, life is too short etc. Things will never be the same and I mean that in a good way- we are both a lot wiser.
-
I'm sorry to hear about the stroke! Hope she recovers fine!

Hey Fernando. Much like you I have been away for ages as I got all the pups I needed and sifted a bit too.
Sorry to hear about Mrs 38th. I hope she's getting better.
I could do with some Les Paul pup recommendations if you fancy reliving the end old times hehe. Going to put a post in the relevant thread.

Hey Fernando, glad to see you again. Good luck with the politics
I missed this the first time round, but sorry to hear about Mrs 38th. Send her my best wishes, I hope she's on the mend by now.

Hey guys thanks- she is making good progress-the brain does try to find new pathways and she is walking , albeit not too far and her arm and hand are improving though still much weaker than before. We are both optimists and work hard to assist in the recovery. Whether she'll get back to normal remains to be seen but that is the plan. I am a bit of an expert on her kind of stroke now.
Thanks for the good wishes- I can tell you that at such times, people saying nice things really do help more than I can say.

Good to hear about the progress. Best wishes from me and Mrs R.

In times like these information for a change makes me hopeful. Having heard and read about the power of the brain to reform is always great, but once you hear about a case you really do care about it comes home to you. I was always amazed by the liver for its ability to regrow till I learned about the brain. Incredible what it can do. Rightfully beyond what science can understand.
I was playing in the name of a woman I never knew, yet hope to someday, and it was the blues. Now she is improving as I hoped and I recall all I have learned over the years about this kind of thing...and I do stop playing the blues and just go to a major scale & more slide playing.
It is weird to me that I am relieved about this. But it feels good. Again, all the best. From by blues you have moved on to my happy songs. Maybe next stop is power-metal?^^

I still check up on here most days when I've got a few minutes! I never seem to play guitar much any more, not that I don't want to, it's just finding the time to balance between my bikes/gym/house/gf/social life! I've been jamming with an awesome bassist, drummer and singer when I get time though so there's still hope I can get a little band going finally haha.
Best wishes to Mrs 38th as well!

Cheers Tom.
Yes the brain does have remarkable capabilities. Just after the stroke I read that up to 2 million brain cells a minute can be damaged. To me that sounded very frightening and on day one, it was all very scary and traumatic though she was in no mood to dwell on it or feel self pity. Then I found that the brain has something like 100 billion cells. I read up on plasticity and I remembered reading that you could improve your own guitar playing by watching a skilled player's hands.
I sat with her for hours at a time moving my leg and arm and my fingers. Hers were totally useless to her but we kept at it. Then bit by bit the movement started to come back in her leg. I don't know if we can attribute it to that. Another strange thing occurred. She has a friend who says she is an energy healer. As far as I was concerned, I didn't want Mrs 38th's hopes raised unduly but we were open to anything. So this friend visited her in hospital. That night, after two and a half weeks of being immovable, her right arm could be raised. I was amazed. The day before the arm was useless though at that point she had just the faintest of movement in the tips of two fingers. Since then the friend has seen her a few times and she has made progress each time. I really didn't want to believe it and if I hadn't seen it myself, would have remained very sceptical. But for now I am just grateful that the bleak future that I thought she and I would have, is looking better.
