Hey guys, I got a question from all the experienced people of the forum. I was intrigued when I read the description of the trilogy pickups being 'beefy' and 'P-90-esque'. I personally love p-90's (although I have primarily played them on les Paul juniors and the like). As I intuitively see p-90's as a vintage-ish tone, I have a hard time understanding why the trilogy's also are called 100% modern in their voicing.
So my question is, if I'm looking for a semi-hot vintage p-90 sound, in a single-coil size, is this the way to go? Or way off? Looking a bit at the cobra too.
Thanks in advance!

Trilogies are indeed P90-esque, way fatter and higher output than vintage single coils. Of course they are not real P90's. The magnet is not as big, so they can't be, but they go that direction. The Cobra's are more modern in comparison. I would go TS here.

Trilogy Suites are indeed fatter and higher output than traditional single coil pickups so in that way I can see the P90 comparison but other than that, I just don't see it. Trilogies don't have the growl of a P90 and even though they were fatter and hotter, they still sounded like single coils to me and I found they could make a decent fist of more vintage tones as well as obviously being at home with more modern styles. Sinners would be another step along the route you're talking about.

Ah thanks guys. Are there any other alternatives if i'd like that p-90 sound out of a single-coil, or is this my best shot?

There are single coils from other manufacturers that are made with a P90 construction.
In the BKP range have a look at The Sinner too
