Title: Pickup Suggestion
Post by: mantrasky on July 15, 2015, 08:31:25 PM
Hello, I have been using the Holy Diver Calibrated set in my Charvel Strat (Maple/Neck & Fretboard/Alder Body/Pickguard/Floyd) through a SLO and the sound is kind of "Clacky?" from the pick during fast playing runs, sounds a little like Jake E Lee. I don't really like it, it has a bit of a hard sound and not smooth (as I've read it's suppose to be "Fluid sounding") maybe you guys could recommend a better replacement? I do kind of like EVH, Lynch, Sykes, Moore, Schanker/Uli, Vai, Scatch lead tones, (wide examples).

Any suggestions would be "Very" Appreciated

Thanks!!!

Is the issue with both pickups or only with one of the two?

If you want a smoother bridge perhaps the Crawler could be an option, as it is fuller, rounder, and such. For the neck perhaps also the Crawler, but IŽd say more of an Emerald neck (which also goes great with the HD bridge if only the neck is your issue).

I've noticed this too when using the HD on my Budda Superdrive.

Have you tried using your tone and volume pots?
Just dial your tone and volume pots down to say 6 and adjust the gain and volume on your amp.

Crawler/Emerald-neck as Kiichi suggests is a good option. I have the Crawler in a swampashstrat. No harsh sound there.

I've got a Crawler in the bridge of my Strat and it sounds brilliant. I too would recommend checking it out
