Friday night my laptop (only computer) cr@ps itself beyond recovery.
This has my tunes and pics and is my primary comms. with my folks (father having terminal cancer).
So, call insurance (had a rider) and start ball rolling.
All weekend without pc :(
Mon. am, finally come to agreement with insurance.
Go buy new laptop.
Ipod still has songs on btw (phew).
Get home with laptop (big hassle, only one left in Houston area and my bank was playing silly beggars so took all day to get money to buy it).
Boot up, do newest instal thing.
Install itunes, am frazzled and tired and headache so without knowing/realising push wrong key. It WIPES my ipod's music AGGGHHHHH!
Cannot find how to recover songs!
Uninstall itunes.
Now itunes will NOT install/run anymore (error caused, have to shut itunes yada yada ............!!)
What a damn weekend!
Any pc gurus with any ideas?
Darn laptop is brand spanking.
Sony Vaio twin processor and all that!
Why is itunes first ok, then wipes my ipod and now will not even re-install/run?
Thanks,
I am sooooooooooooooo stressed!

Hey Nick, sorry to hear about your cr@ppy weekend. Computers often cause these problems! I'm afraid I can't really help you, although I know that there are disk recovery programs that should be able to recover your lost data. Google for them and see what you get, unless you get better advice.

thanks searcher
disc recovery?
well old laptop is fried, no good there.
I put this one back to before I loaded itunes (the windows recovery thing where it saves times and can re-load from a previous time) now itunes keeps giving the "I am sorry itunes experienced an error........."
good lord, dunno how much more cr@p can go wrong.
I can almost handle losing my songs now (just have to re-purchase them) but cannot even load damn itunes!
I am so fed up with pc's right now!

well, got itunes working (had to delete quicktime, sigh) guess apple don't like microsoft alot .
Still lost ALL my songs though :(
Funny, found some songs I want are on itunes UK?????
Have to buy a card and see if I can download them. I thought it was all one thing, strange. Maybe the exchange rate etc. will not allow this though.
Darn this laptop is QUICK though!!!!!!!
My old one was 6 years old (20 gig hard drive etc.)
This has dual processors, 100 gig hard drive, 1 gig ram, built in mic and camera, dvd+-read write etc. and usb 2 yippee.
Quiet and quick!
So not ALL bad weekend.

I should have known :)

itunes will do that. Say you plugged your ipod into someone else's pc to put a few tunes on it, it will delete all your existing tunes and add those on the new itunes library that it's connected to.
Sorry to hear about your cr@p weekend.

Thanks Johnny.
MAIN thing is, got another laptop now so can stay in contact with my folks till I can move home.
Just got better news too. My other half just got promised a $8,500 bonus!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo, LOTTA stress relief there. Will pay for new deck (so can sell house), airline tickets, Murphy (my dawg/best friend) paperwork for immigration, shipping of our stuff...........
It's getting better.
And as for music/itunes, can always get it again, just maddening. Should be like a double safety feature or summit so non-geeks like me don't lose all their jams!

well, not hit bank yet so no counting chicks here lol
but yeah, will make the move smoother than could have been. Goodness knows I am in NO hurry to EVER move countries again after this!

Sounds like an awful weekend!
I would consider getting an external hard drive like i do, theyre not much and it means i can keep my files on there without fear of them getting lost.
-
indeed
a usb powered drive is on the cards for sure.
Not that need space right now. Was used to 20megs now have 100 megs lol. But NOT losing data (hopefully) would be worth it.
Or, of course, could have burnt a damn disc to start with!

you can set itunes to manual update, so it doesnt do it automatically. just open up itunes before firing in the ipod and it will be fine.
