Title: Recommendations for Les Paul Studio
Post by: pasc22 on September 23, 2015, 10:54:45 AM
Hey guys,

I'm looking at finally upgrading from the stock pickups in my Gibson Les Paul Studio, but the thing is i dont really know where to start.
This is the music i use it for: https://majoraofficial.bandcamp.com/album/iridescent
Progressive/Post-Rock.
I tune to an open C and use fairly heavy strings, im not unhappy with what im using but i know there is better options.

Happy to hear your opinions!

Cheers,
Josh

Studios with their chambered bodies can sometimes suffer from the thin bridge problem soundwise.  I would not get some of the pickups that are often recommended for darker, full weight LPs like Emeralds or Rebel Yells.

Listening to your track I would probably recommend an alnico Nailbomb for good cleans and that contemporary edge with plenty of beef to overcome the issue I mentioned above.  I have one and it is doing a good job in C standard in my Explorer.

One of the Nailbomb ones or Warpig?

I use a LP studio too and have a ceramic Nailbomb in the bridge. Sounds great, full and aggressive, in drop c.

Alnico Nailbomb does very well in my Tokai Les Paul standard, tight, clear with a modern twist.
