Hi GUys
hows it going?
im here to ask you, once again for some advice regarding an specific neck pickup for my 6 guitar(s).
Im currently trying to LIKE the cold sweat Neck thats together with my nailbomb bridge (ALnico).
The pickup has an awesome articulation, but weird enough is the fact that either my ears are DEAF (for these frequencies) or the pickup has a gap on the middle frequencies (strings 3 and 4) .When i do 5 string or 6 string arpeggio, it seems that the tone gets a bit quiter on these strings, . ill try this pickup in a mahogany body les paul by esp and see if i get the same problem. If so, ill sell or trade ir for another Bkp neckl pickup, and THATS Where you can help me.
i have tried so far only 3 BkPs : Nailbomb neck, Emerald neck and now the cold sweat neck. out of these 3 ones, i preffer the Emerald. But i miss more bite, more attack and a more commanding tone. a tad more output too.
I like it silk, velvet, creamy, super singing tone, with moderate, high output... but the pickup cant be WEAK(too soft or too low output).
it should be articulate enough to handle high gain solos, and to have AWESOME clean sounds. (a mix of vintage TONE, but modern structure )
i preffer a pickup with non reduced mids, cause i like my mids; No reduced highs too. a balanced pickup but i still like a tad bit of Depth and compression to my tone. and i preffer Darker(but not muddy) pickups . instead of bright.
Which pickups would you guys recomend me ?!?!
Its going into A Basswood body guitar. maple neck and rosewood fretboard. 25,5 scale length . and floyd rose. And it will be used to play extreme metal, but SOLOS, mainly solos. sweep picking, two hands, etc and a considerably clean sounds to it. so a big organic clean sound is desired.
i Hope you guys can chime in and help me.
thanks in advance
PS - I was thinking about a painkiller, aftermath , or maybe a warpig in the neck. but im open to suggestions.
IM definitely settled up to get a set of Blackhawks for my guitars, as well as , at least, experiment a juggernaut bridge and an aftermath bridge.

Tonally I'd say VH II for the neck (as also used by Nolly and Misha) but my only reservation would be whether it has enough output for you.
-
I like the cold sweat neck. To my ears it's like an elegant and graceful deer skipping around beautiful scenery. With cleans and under hi gain it sparkles and dances around but it misses the mark when you want to get nasty!
I agree the vhii neck seems appropriate and I think it has enough output. After than the juggeranuit neck to me is like a slightly higher output vhii neck.....awesome for big clean soundscapes and even better under hi gain than the vhii neck but for vintage cleans it breaks up too quickly. After that you've got the aftermath neck which in a brighter guitar is the sound you're describing but the cleans are only adequate.....too dark for nice cleans imo but sings and screams and shred like a more metal cold sweat under hi gain with all the deatil and fluidity and more..

I was also thinking VHII neck.
Cheers Stephan

I have the Nailbomb, Cold Sweat, and Warpig necks and have installed the Emerald neck in a friend's guitar.
Out of those four the Emerald would be the closest to what you seek ... I definitely would not recommend the Warpig neck for you ... like others here I think the VHII neck will be the closest fit out of the BKP range.

Not trying to go off topic here but is the nailbomb neck like a gritty single coil type tone? Tempted to pull the trigger on a nailbomb set.....love the bridge but the neck is a unknown quantity still.

Probably the brightest neck pickup I've got; very bright and metallic but not really glassy enough to be comparable to a single coil on its own, however put it in a dark, resonant guitar and I could see how that might add some of the necessary frequencies to get into "gritty single coil" territory.

Vhii definitely has more bite and is a bit of a monster but it is quieter and thinner than a Cs.
I chucked a vid comparison in another thread below this one.
Both are great pups.
Enjoy!

In the paragraph starting with "i like it silk..."
You've got some contradictory terms in there e.g no reduced highs and dark.
Can you elaborate more?
The reasoni ask is a lot of those term could be (in my experience ) describe the cs (maybe even a crawler too) or vhii depending on which words you ommit. The Cs and vhii are rather different indeed.

Heres the vid too.
Hope this helps.

Ill elaborate everything. With pleasure. ahahahah but sorry for my bad english.
These days ive been through a lot of stress, my mom is in hospital and recovering from a cancer surgery. shes having some minor complications, but overall shes ok.
OK, what i want for the neck is this :
CLEAN : a big, wet, balanced but dark(this isnt contraditory when i mean that the frequencies should not OVERPOWER each other. at least not dominantly. thats what i mean by balanced EQ chart. the tone could be different), not muddy nor mush. Organic with and without distortion. On the first 3 strings, no thin tone on the upper registers. Think this for cleans, its acoustic guitars, but almost like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzeSWEcZ8HE or this other link here where he plays eletric guitar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U1v9gz4kRE jump to 1:07 till 1:32
DISTORTED : Organic, balanced EQ. something like 6,7 , 7 or 6,7,8 . SHould work pretty well with high gain and LOWER Tuning.(i mainly tune my guitars to D, C and B standard. ) deep and smooth bass(when i say smooth, i dont mean reduced or scooped bass, nor mids, nor highs) without the mushy sound frequently found in other brands neck pickups. articulated and vivid mids, and ultra sweet and singing highs. Output moderate.
the pickup need to SING , with distortion , and to have nice and beautiful cleans. all of this in a low tuned guitar and under a high gain. the pickup also needs to cut through the mix.
Is it better now ? Q: )

People tend to overlook the Rebel Yell neck pickup but I am wondering it it is the one to go with in this case. It is between the VHII and CS necks

Based on my experience i'd say the vhii neck. Can't comment on the rebel yell neck very little experience with it but probably worth a punt.
-
the vhii is a big fat PAF
it will deliver the clean tones and articilation, but it has hollow voiced mids and medium low output, comparable to the neck cold sweat
doesn't sound like what he's looking after at all
his description sounds almost exactly like a neck miracle man, except for the 'AWESOME clean sounds' (although the clean is still fine)

I can dig it.
