Title: Wanting to swap a pair of Mules for something with more output
Post by: samveness on October 19, 2015, 10:35:22 PM
Hey! I'm looking to swap my set of gold covered Mules for something a little heavier with more output. Something like the VHII's would be perfect. Thanks!

What kind of guitar/timbers and for what sort of music?
The VHII is noncompressed, very focussed and articulate. You can steer the VHII with your picking attack. Quite some output and bass for a vintagehot pickup, nearly on par with the Crawler.

I play a Les Paul Custom, and its for punk rock mainly. The mules are good but can be somewhat prone to feedbacking when the gains up a bit

I never have that problem with Mules, but the VHII will do that style.

me neither... they could be unpotted mules, though

regarding output, depends if he wants more compression or just raw power
the vhII certainly delivers a louder and punchier sound, but if he wants more compression, perhaps an abraxas might work
the black dog is pretty different from the mule, but sounds great too

They are potted as I got them potted so I could put gold covers on them. Not sure why the feedback so much but always kind of have?

If they feedback, i'd just get them repaired.
If they still feedback, it could be the amount of gain you use, or some faulty equipment along the way.

It would be a shame if you went through all the trouble of replacing them just to have the same problem again.

Hey Samveness, Having them potted will help prevent the feeback but if you then put a cover on you will need to have them potted again as its most likely air oscillation between the metals of the cover and the poles/slugs. Have you fitted the covers yourself?

Hey no I didn',t but the guy also did forget to pot them in the first place before putting covers on them so I don't know how well the job was done aha

I would have thought it just needs to be potted. We do offer a potting service. If you'd like look into getting them potted first just give us an email on sales@bareknucklepickups.co.uk and the Sales Manager Ben will email back with pricing.
