Title: Bridge humbucker for strat (metal-ish)
Post by: metale on December 18, 2015, 06:57:12 AM
Hey there.

So, I've got this guitar which is getting the treatment.

 https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=31429.msg404164#msg404164 (https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=31429.msg404164#msg404164)

I'm having the body sanded, refinished (probably with a figured veneer on the top) and the neck refreted with medium-jumbos and re-radiused to 14", steel trem block, etc.

I currently have the following guitars, so not too keen on the same on equivalent pickups:
- vintage style strat, singles, E standard
- Epi LP Standard, Mule(n)+Black Dog(b), Drop C
- Dean Hardtail, MQ(n)+Abraxas(b), Drop C
- Squier Strat, SD Pegasus, Drop C

For variety I want to keep this one tuned to Eb and to tackle more of 80-90s metal instead of 2000-10s. I'm mainly a rythm player, crunchy riffs but no shredding.

I already have a SD Sentient for the neck and a Trilogy Suite middle, so the bridge humbucker has to play nice with those, but no splits/blends etc - standard 3 way switch for simplicity.

My thoughts:

Also anyone knows if BKP would be willing to make a zebra humbucker with the screw coil white instead of cream?

Cheers

I can answer your last question: Yes, they'll make a black/white zebra for you. Just mention it in the extra text field when ordering.

Holydiver or Rebel Yell, depending on how much attack and brightness you want (RY has more).

Cheers Stephan

Go Diver here.

Out of those options I would go Holy Diver.

Warpig would also be good but I doubt that it would match well with your single coils.

To be honest, I'm kind of split about going HSH, HH or HS.

The neck humbucker and middle single I already have. It's just choosing what to install (the pickguard is currently a rectangular blank).

Holy Diver should have better pinch harmonics than the Warpig, no?

I'm not sure.  I get great pinch harmonics from my A-Pig.

If going HH then A-Pig/Warpig or A-Pig/Juggernaut could be good combos for metal in a Strat.

The neck pickups is always going to be either the Sentient or the Trilogy Suite. I'll probably go HSH, since my other "metal strat" has a lonely bridge humbucker, so this one gets some versatility.

Would the Rebel Yell be better for rythm?

Edit:

If considering the RY, should I also consider the A-bomb for less brightness?

I was really set on the HD, but noe between the HD, the A-NB and the JN, I'm not sure at all...
