Title: Pickup Choice for metal LP Custom
Post by: Fole 666 on December 28, 2015, 03:46:12 PM
Hi, I'd like an advice because I'm in a new band and I want a really great tone!

I play a LP Custom tuned in drop c# into a Mesa Single Rectifier, and our influences are Tool, AIC, Mastodon, Godsmack and Staind.

What would be your choice? And not just BKP, I'd like to hear even "common" PU's (like Duncans, Gibson, ecc...)

I vote Nailbomb on this one. Great 90s tones.

+ 4 on the Nailbomb.  Anything that really tightens up the lows and low mids is hugely beneficial with a recto.

A lot of Customs are dark-sounding, heavy axes.  If your Custom is one of those you might want to consider the Rebel Yell.

Wouldn't the Painkiller be great if more output is needed?

Rebel Yell in a really dark, low mid heavy instrument is amazing btw.
