Title: Warpig Drop C Clip
Post by: llJasonll on January 17, 2016, 04:41:04 PM
Here is a clip of a doomy/melodic thing that I came up with for a new project I'm working on.  It's an Alder/Maple cap warmoth build with alnico Warpigs.  It's just preproduction, but I thought it came out pretty okay.  Hope you guys dig!

Sounds awesome! What type of guitar, I recently tried them in a mahogany ESP and they sounded a bit dark but your ones don't

Thanks, man!  It's a Warmoth soloist, bolt on.  It has an alder body, maple top, and the neck/fingerboard is maple too.  It's the same guitar that's pictured on the clip.

I like the guitar sound and the playing, but the composition didn't sound especially 'doomy' to me.  I am struggling with the same thing in my project at the moment.  I am searching for a drummer who is suitably downbeat and morose sounding.  Everyone I've tried out so far is too busy and keeps pushing me to play faster.  Trying out another one tonight, hopefully we click.

Thanks!

To be honest, I was hoping it wasn't too "doomy" sounding.  I love that stuff, but like you, not sure the rest of the guys would want to go for something too doomy.  I was told "space jams" when we were talking about a specific sound that we would be going for.  We talked about ideas like, heavy riffing, trippy choruses, lush tones, and clean singing.  I immediately thought to myself "this is a perfect excuse to get a bit of Daylight Dies influence in this project!"

Well the good news is that the latest drummer seems to be a keeper.  He can actually play slow and non-busy when the song demands it and do all of that stuff too when appropriate.  He can go Funeral Moth speed if he needs to.

No not yet.  We are still in very early songwriting stages.  We have riffs for maybe one whole song and some others that could be the start of two more songs.  It's sludgy doom metal stuff with punk influences, I guess Crowskin and The Melvins are good influences to talk about but there are some of the riffs also sound like thrash metal (Sodom) or hardcore punk (Exploited) riffs that have been slowed down and transposed into a lower key.  In the broad sense my songwriting influences probably range from Funeral Moth to Autopsy but obviously for it to be coherent the spectrum of bands that we would sound like is not so broad.  The guitars I've been using are a Gibson SG Special Faded with alnico Warpig set and an Epiphone Korina Explorer with an alnico Nailbomb set, both tuned to C standard.

Sounds interesting!  Shout when you get something released, so I can check it out.
