hey guys. i'm lookin to go the low ouput route in a custom made ash guitar. currently has a padouk fretboard, hickory neck. i just took the stockholm/supermassive combo out of there because i'm just wanting lower output stuff these days. plus they didnt seem to love the ash they were sitting it.
i'm considering my options here. like the seymour duncan custom shop or the creamery pickups. the only bk pickups that i think may work for me here would be the blue note. i want a great natural overdriven tone. something warm and not too focused on the highs. basically just a classic p90 sound that'll do well in a naturally bright guitar.
thoughts?

I think you have a pretty good ear and I'm sure that something like the Blue Note would be better here than a Stockholm and Supermassive combo. For a high output option (which you don't want) a Pig-90 would probably work better with this guitar than the Stockholm. Thinking in the warmer spectrum is best here. I would avoid A5 mags for the most part. Have a look at the Manhattan too, which is more like the Half Note. If I could play jazz I'd get them a shot!

honestly if i could have my way, i'd get an underwound supermassive with a less powerful magnet. because it seems to have the best tonal spectrum out of them all with the increased bass and lower treble

Blue Notes are signifantly cleaner and less raunchy than Nantuckets.

I wonder if you could get a Supermassive with an A4 mag?

I would say Blue Note too. Should give you that certain sweetness you crave.
I love my Manhattan neck too, but that really is something else. Very sweet and natural. The only thing even in the same realm of cleans I have heard are the 10ths, but those take gain more in the way we are used to. The Manhattan neck delivers what reminds me of 70s psychedelic distortion and fuzz if I turn my Orange up or use a fuzz. Very classic and you canīt get past that. Amazing for that, but specific in a way.
The Bluenote should take gain in the way you want and thanks to the magnet have more of top end you seek than a MQ or Nantucket.

I have a Hamer Special with a Blue Note in the neck, and a Nantucket in the bridge. I find that a killer combination, incredibly versatile. Maybe worth considering?

i contacted bk with the same thing i started the thread with and was told to consider the mississippi queen in soapbar. i have no experience with them but wouldnt those seem a little on the bright side?

Thing with P90s is that they have that extended high end compared to HBs....but also extended low end with a more defined character, in a way, compared to HBs. The more vintage you go the more you notive that.
I for one have 3 out of 4 P90s necks so I cant comment that much, but the magnet difference it the frontline here. Compared to HBs the magnet seems to come through a lot more in P90s.
The way I image a MQ bridge to be is bright, yes, but also with a defined and open bottom end that does not lack in the least. With the AV magnet I would not expect anything but AV character, but purer than most of the time.
If there is a kind of PU that makes the magnet difference clear it is a vintage wire P90.
Letīs grow the love for vintage and P90s. ;)

MQ's have a lot of midrange, which makes a bright guitar meatier. I can't predict if the topend is too much for that guitar.
