Title: Abraxas or VHII for neck position
Post by: HEadoftheAges on February 21, 2016, 02:58:31 AM
The title says it all. I am, in essence, looking for a deep, piano-like clean tone that is capable of jazz and jangly post punk alike. It should be able to handle distorted solo-ing, as well. Which of the two pickups splits better?

VHII neck is hotter, so I would assume it would split better. But the Abraxas neck would definitely be better for anything jangly; the VHII is very warm and thick.

The VHII is also pretty asymetrical IIRC. That helps with the splits and also gives it a bit more SC character to begin with.

Difficult choice. I use both and both work well, full humbucking or split. VHII is the hotter of the two.

Hmmm...here is a more succinct question: which of the two pickups is more like the Seymour Duncan Jazz pickup?

Output wise the Abraxas neck should be closer but it is wound with a different wire type than the Jazz. The Holydiver neck would probably be closest to the Jazz.
