This could be interesting so will throw it out there.
OK, trying to sell two guitars to fund one new one.
Now, if I manage to sell/get the $1,300
WHAT would you buy??????????
Now, bear in mind. I will still have a Gibson LP Standard, Music Man Axis hardtail.
I like to play anything from Rock to Metal to I guess prog. Rock? dunno, term I hear now adays.
Anyway, let fly with suggestions :)
-
PRS, Parker Fly or something custom made (if it were me)
-
i'd go for the japanese tokai sg. they are really good for rock stuff, very very nice to play and really high quality.
i like how frustrated you are making sam with your not telling him what you are going for  he'll be tearing his hair out with anticipation
-
lol, yeah, poor poor Sam
PRS, hmmm NO! I have a gibson and that took enough finding. Maybe OLD PRS but the newer ones are either sterile or cr@p, takes ALOT of time to find a GOOD one IMO.
Parker, hmmmm.
Custom, not enough money. Feline and I are gonna be buddies but not just quite yet.
Tokai. Nope. Prolly gonna be US as am here now and cost-value etc. But am kinda looking for a strat type thang. More like the Jackson neck width with the Axis speed/comfort.
-
I would get me this one. It's a bit more than 1300, though.

-
LOL Rat
ONE Gibson is enough for me till I make millionaire status.
I know they ARE part of history but it wears ya out looking for a "good" one, which should NOT be the case!
-
ESP M-II, urban cammo
-
Cammo!
Darn T.O.
I am not quite up to your calibre of playing yet so would be abit more self concious playing a Cammo guitar! LOL
ESP is prolly better bet than that Gibbo though (sad to say).
I already have a 99.9% idea but want opinions (never can know EVERY guitar/jem out there) and also, perversely, wanna mess with Sambo
-
I'd go for a partscaster. Pick up all the bits and pieces on eBay and put it together yourself. You can get BKPs for it and really whatever options you want and still be under your budget.
-
Darn TO, thats looks (have NO idea) like Scott Ian would LOVE it! :)
-
I . . . perversely, wanna mess with Sambo
:?
-
LOL Searcher.
That is to come. Nah want a finished one right now.
Also, Ebay FRANCE have blocked my account and will NOT say why AGGGHHH.
Oh well. Had TWO French emails and US will not reply to me.
I had 100% feedback and all that so NO idea whats up.
Merde bloody froggies! lol
-
I'd second the custom suggestion.
-
Might be a lil out of price range but.... Somthing top quality like a Suhr, Briggs or Organic (standard would be within price.) or even a mcnaught.
Thats just my 2p.
-
Dave, it WILL happen. But abit down the road, not right now. Feline and I have talked and more money is needed. Also, I just wanna compliment what I have with summit now, whilst stateside.
Appreciate custom is BEST option, but it's "in the works for later".
-
eBay France, huh? Hmm. Does that affect your dealings on eBay US? And I can't talk you into a partscaster? You could buy everything ready to go and just put it together. Even with the intonation and so on it shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours or so. And you'd get something that you could say was custom-made (well, kinda).
-
apparently ebay is ebay.
I am blocked and have received two emails from France Ebay.
I have emailled Ebay US three times with NO response.
Thought it was a payment issue (me owing) but not according to account (as my card changed recently due to a fraudulant charge, by banananas.com btw, just to let ya know!).
-
well to try and forget about my frustration for not knowing the toy ( :x !!!!)
i'll join in with suggestions
esp f-400fm....
thru-neck, mahogany body (so i guess good for rock---->metal), through body stringing.... nice finish.... emg's- obviously better than stock pups in a lot of other axes if not as good as BKP's..., AWESOME design.... never see ANYONE one with one anywhere (so their different- although that may not be what you want)... and i spose its ROUGHLY 'strat' style lol.... more like the devil of super-strats... a mutation....
http://www.machinehead.co.uk/images/esp-jpg/f400fm-lg.jpg
the necks loook soooooooo lush.... if you can find a pic of the back you'll drool even if you dont like the guitar itself (i think theyre kinda love em or hate em guitars)...
EDIT: better pics (well this is a slightly different model but its virtually identical)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ESP-30th-Anniversary-LTD-F-2005-SKULL-ebony-EMG81-F2005_W0QQitemZ7386029476QQcategoryZ114463QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
just look at the back of that beauty....
i have no idea what they're like but on paper they're pretty awesome... and they look awesome in general....
do you like the style nick? do i need to tone down my searching? lol i dont think i would have suggested this if i hadnt been obsessed with metal recently
the necks loook soooooooo lush.... if you can find a pic of the back you'll drool even if you dont like the guitar itself (i think theyre kinda love em or hate em guitars)...
-
Sambo Sambo Sambo
LOL, it's abit GARISH for me! I am 36yo lol.
No, seriously, NICE guitar. I have played one, although briefly. Thing is, IMO, my Jackson BLOWS it away. Then it's just my opinion in my taste.
A better clue (to my thought) is what I am looking at is twice the price of that too.
-
lol yer i soon realised that lol...
i see.... the search shall continue
-
ESP's are seriously nice guitars for the money. But, for instance, when they say "James Hetfield" Sig guitar $1,200 ish, it's bullcr@p. The Jap site has more the REAL sig. and they are thousands.
Anyway, keep looking.
I KNOW it's killing ya LOL!
-
yer damn right its killing me .....
-
Hehehehe
need another clue do we?
-
yes pwease....
-
well tough, na ne ne na na
-
  :? :o :D
-
OK
I will be getting rid of my only two guitars with trem, therefore....
Also, I would'nt be trying to do this right now really unless the guitar I am thinking of was US made (therefore ALOT cheaper here).
Lastly, for now  , I will be (argueably) getting rid of my superstrat, the Jackson,therefore....
-
hmmmmm ok... im on it
-
then again, maybe no-one will buy either/both of them, and then this is all a moot point.
And to be honest, I will NOT be broken hearted as love em both.
Just figured why not try and combine both and reduce the collection by one. Goodness knows some get neglected now
-
lol... yer im taking your advice and trying to do the same with amps
-
best way I think.
I saw your add btw.
Am sure we are BOTH asking VERY reasonable prices so should do ok, just maybe not "immediately".
I mean, even for the UK import tax etc. Mine are like what 380 quid each? When I see em go (even on Evilbay.co.uk) for WAY more than that. :)
And I could also, undervallue/gift them to try and help with any import duty.
-
woah that would be extra super kinda of you to anyone who wanted to buy it from over here... if im reading your post right lol
-
what the heck does it matter to me? I am NOT a business so dunno why not. I did hear somewhere a guy bought a guitar and the seller said it was a gift and put a birthday card in with it LOL. He did'nt make out 100% but got a BREAK from customs so I hear.
Anyway, enough, what am I thinking of getting young Sage Sambo????????
-
ermmmmmm... er..... an... i..iii ibanez?
-
emmmmmmmmmm er Ibanez is Japanese is it not? LOL
-
oh damn forgot that one... poo
washburn?
-
nooooooooooooooooo
and whats more NO!
-
How about this (http://www.fenderhellokitty.com/gear.html)? ;)
-
Too late
Kitty is already in Da House!
Have a 11yo girl here btw :)
So, nope, been there done that :)
-
You could get two matching Kitty guitars! How cool would that look on stage. ;)
Seriously though, what about an American Deluxe Strat?
-
Could duct tape em together like a double neck ROFLMAO
No, not looking at Fender.
Lil bit more unusual than that.
-
Bah! You're being difficult. :P

Never played one myself, but I've heard only good things about them. I think they've been reviewed in some guitar magazines I have. I'll have a quick look through my collection and see if anything interesting turns up.
Oh, did we already guess Carvin and Valley Arts? I forget. I think Valley Arts is out of your budget though anyways.
-
no nobody did, but neither are on my wish list.
I had it pretty narrow (one model/make lol) but am interested in the Moore's. Need to read about em some.
-
ok is it something that i would have heard of? be realistic... im a dumbarse.... and from the UK
-
Sambo, you could work it out. ALL the clues are there.
I LOVE my EB Axis, but prefer the neck width of the Jackson, HINT BLOODY HINT!
BTW, Sambo, ya GOTTA check this out, you'll pee yourself!!!!!!!!
http://media.jlsc.com/schedule/2005/viewer.php?file=newiguitar.mp4
-
I DONT BLOODY KNOW THIS IS TOO CONFUSING!!!!
a peavey wolfgang?
-
Hey Searcher
just watched the Moore IGuitar video, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now bear in mind I am engineer orientated and qualified. But THAT may give me brain overload.
I have a Boss GT-8 and Zoom MRS8 which I am still mystified about (takes me awhile to really understand some new technology, not a lil bendy person anymore lol).
But WOW, that thing is amazing (if it is as nice as they state and works as well).
Also, very complicated (read, ALOT to go wrong) and involved for a guitar!
Still, VERY VERY cool and amazing tool if ya have the talent/software!
-
Sam
ok one more hint
I am NOT liking this part of it, BUT, the guitar am looking at is a Signature guitar.
-
ok im working on it^ NOT an ibanez? how gay i was gonna say satch signature
yer that thing looks cool...
what was i meant to laugh at? the john lennon educational tour bus? cause if that wasnt it then i made an unneccessary puddle of urine over my desk while laughing so hard at that part....!!!!!
also.... "lil bendy person" HAHAHAAHAHAHHQ!!!!!!!! thats just gold... pure gold....

I'm just watching the iGuitar movie now; it does look pretty cool! I had no idea they could do all this stuff. I just remember hearing good things about them years ago.

ARGHGH!GO!HBY!GBO!UWYBI!UY O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!      :x :x :x :x
-
Mark, not sure, as not flipped through whole site, which do what things.
Some have some beautiful tops (again, maybe too nice for me as will wanna put it on wall again, figure of speach) and dunno if I would/could use it's full potential. But what a concept if nothing else.
-
ok if im not told now i will cry... what guitar is it...
-
Zion guitars (http://www.zionguitars.com/main.asp?template=products)

first a bike, and now paint and a file!
is there anything you don't have for sale?
-
Oh yeah, I think i tried one of the korean brian moore's- i thought it was decent, but not amazing. Though that was doubtless helped by the fact that I'd been trying ibanez j-customs, jems, and USA jacksons, lol.
-
i bet he doesnt have a 1967 book on the dissection of a dogfish for sale.
-
maybe not, but he's not letting on to you the guitar either is he
-
 searcher ill trade you? 1967 dogfish dissection book for the answer to my strife?
-

-
OMG Sam boy
ok ok
what do you do while asleep at night?
Where do you go to see a play?
Put em together
Jeesh!
-
ok so its john petrucci from dream theatre....
several thousans points to trawl through now:
1.) i have no previous (or present) knowledge of John petrucci and therefore had no idea about hair-dos
2.) i have no previous (or present) knowledge of John petrucci and therefore had no idea about ibanez endorsement
3.) i have no previous (or present) knowledge of John petrucci and therefore had no idea about his guitar style
i could go on for days... but i wont... cause i cant
-
Have you had a look at Carvin stuff? Yuo have to buy from the factory direct and they are supposed to be brilliant. I still want this. This guitar will seriously piss off those who don't like quilt maple!
-
yep, not my cup of tea.
When I was at that point I actually bought my Music Man Axis instead.
-
ok nick, i forgive you... the torture you have put me through is now a thing of the past...
by the way, you know when you posted me that stuff... did you put all those stickers on the envelope, or were they put on afterwards or what?
-
so what is it???????????
And NO, no stickers. Customs declaration and address label is all.
-
i still dont know the guitar
so where do you get the customs declaration and address label from??? do i have to do that as well? if say, i was posting to...a... relative.. in.... Texas...
-
lol Sammy, no need dude honestly.
Anyway, post office will have them all. Will make you fill out before you can send it anyway.
So, had enough?
Want outta your misery?
-
"I have been playing for 19 years for what it is worth. I have performed with and for some pretty big named national acts. I was also a member of the United States Marine Band as a guitar player. I sold 2 Ibanez Jems, an Ibanez Petrucci and 2 PRS' (a McCarty and a Single Cut) because once I got this guitar...everything else could not compare. PERIOD. I just ordered my second BLEEP. Not because I need to have 2 but because my first one is due for a factory service after a year and a half of constant abuse and I cannot and will not be without one for a gig! If someone TRIES to steal either one...well....I probably would never play guitar again because I would end up on death row!!! Enough said!!!!
-
an ernie ball petrucci sig?
look out for the mailman my friend... or maybe i should say, check your little white box thing in your front garden... you know, the one with the little red flag?
-
http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetails.aspx?Item=867047
like this, but not same colour.
-
phew im glad thats over....
piezo pup and everything that looks awesome.......
-
was'nt going for piezo but after more reading could be VERY useful.
Don't need the Petrucci inlays though.
Either way, with piezo have been qouted about 860 quid! Cheapest could find in UK with NO piezo was 1,599.99 on sale!!!!!!!! EEK.
Anyway, if I can sell my two then I think I will get one.
-
i bet he doesnt have a 1967 book on the dissection of a dogfish for sale.
Well, it's my last copy, but I can let you have it for a reasonable price.
-
^ cool nick
mark, thats just taking the ruddy piss.... is that an actual book of yours?
-
THAT IS priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

^ cool nick
mark, thats just taking the ruddy piss.... is that an actual book of yours?
Read the author's name, Sambo. ;)
BTW, this is the most fun I've had in days. I'm home sick, you see.
-

-
never mind the author, look at the pic ROFLMAO
Sam the model :P
Poor Sam.
Hey Sam, the dogfish joke is old now. :P Anyway, I should go do some more work on my guitar that I'm building. It won't drive me nuts without my help.
-
telecaster. totally. it's a classic; and will give yu a very different sound from ur other 'tars :)
-
you think your so funny.... with your... dogfish book.. and your guitar building.... and your... your CANADA..... well you just wait... just wait cause one day... when im bigger and older than you.... (yes thats right older than you) ill come and find you.... and singe the corners of your book with a lighter, and slightly buckle-rash your guitar and mildly harm you by giving you a soft punch on the arm...
so watch out
-
uho, Sambo retribution, scary thing :)
Indy, one day a tele, but right for now I would actually be looking at replacing the Jackson, more super strat.
-

No problem with that.
I work 2 weeks on one week off, I work in London, but go home on my week off (when I can afford it).
To keep this slightly a couple of the tutors over at url]www.riffinteractive.com[/url] use brian moores, though for the most part they sound a little too processed so it's hard to judge the guitars.
Rob...
-
yes rob ive heard your 'work' explanation a million times...
but we all know that london is where you come to collect cat piss for your experiments and belfast is where you carry them out
-
I would go for a custom USA Dean, with lots of expensive add-ons.
Thats a little more than what 1300 though...
Otherwise, a cool feline V or something.

8)
-
I'd go with an Ibanez J custom or a high end Prestige
-
How can you a John thingie (I can't help it if I can't spell) sig model over a Firebird or a nice old LP Jr (or double cut Jr would be even nicer)
Just wondering also if thought about looking at the Hamer options, as everybody seems to forget about them these days
I assume that you have looked ay the US built Wolfgangs (though it will need proper pickups ;) ) it does all the super strat stuff and feels the business (even my far east version is so nice)
Rob...
-
but firebirds and juniors dont match nick's criteria at all rob :?
-
but firebirds and juniors dont match nick's criteria at all rob :?
What I'm supposed to be worried about the purchasers criteria, don't be silly.
Thats why I suggested the Wolfie as it's a similar style of guitar, but often overlooked, as are Hamers people criminally ignore.
Rob...
-

hamers? what the hell are they
-

hamers? what the hell are they
Just like Washburn, Hamer are one of those companies who produce great stuff but people forget about them. I suppose Dean are the same except Dimebag reminded people about them.
The US built are very nice, and they are (or atleast where) heavily into the through neck business. In the early 80s the explorer shape was just as associated with Hamer as Gibson.
http://www.hamerguitars.com/
I love the Studios and the Special Korina is wonderful. They also do nice 12 string basses. Even their far east built morels are pretty well made too.
Rob...
-
yer theyre nice...
and your right that special korina is REALLY cool
-
Rob, I have my Gibbo Les Paul Std. and to be honest it took forever to find it (a GOOD one). That is enough Gibbo Searching for me for now.
I would def. consider a USA Wolfgang, but then (even after selling the two guitars) I will still have an EB Axis Super Sport (original Wolfgang as it where) so not much difference. It can also give me many many tones (even close to tele) as it has 5 way switching on the humbuckers.
Mainly I play the Axis (either one). But have come to really like the width of the Jackson neck. Which is what this is all about really. Replacing two guitars I love/play the most with one (maybe compromise).
The Ernie Ball JP6 has (it seems thus far) the attributes. Wider neck, yet still gun oiled and unfinished maple. Rosewood fingerboard. Strat shape.
Basically thats why I am thinking of doing this and about that particular guitar.
Owning two Ernie Balls (admittedly they are not too numerous in UK) I have first hand experience with their quality and know full well their reputation (for instance, I wanted one dating once. I got a reply within an hour inc. the shop originally shipped to, try getting Gibson to do that).
I am least happy about it being a "sig" guitar, but oh well. And I can (probably will if end up with one) find one with at least NO Petrucci fretboard inlays.
I started this as there is ALWAYS guitars I have not heard of or thought of, like the Moore's. But upon more research into the Moore, many are Korean (which does NOT fill me with joy) and they are obviously very complex which to me is more than can go wrong. Also, I truly doubt I would use the iGuitar thing to it's true potential. Heck the JP6 is available with piezo anyway if I want. Actually the 3 way switch on the JP6 is a chip, thats enough tech. in a guitar right there lol.
Nick
-
OH yeah,
as for a custom.
I am talking to Feline (but NOT related to THIS matter). Actually $1,300 is NOT gonna get me a custom right now, thats about 770 pounds, which btw is MORE than the JP6, which btw retails for 1,599.99 cheapest could find in UK.
I am abit "canny" so a saving of about 830 quid or 50%+ is a deal to me :)
-
Heh regarding the gibsons I had already read that, but hey when you are stuck on a 12 hour shift you have to cause a little trouble.
I can understand completely when you know that a particular guitar is the one which feels right (and hopefully sounds right). As for the Hamer biz all the makes one normally associates with quality guitars where mentioned except Hamer where mentioned, and I have a very soft spot for them.
Have you tried out one of the JP models, who do they sound compared with the other models ? (cept for the piezo which even I understand)
Normally if I was being opinionated, I would have suggested a Rickenbacker as the perfect purchase, never mind if the buyer likes them or not ;) Though I find the narrow fingerboard particularly useful due to my smallish hands.
Rob...
-
Rob
not gotten my hands on a JP6 yet, am going on spec. and rep. but will drive to bloody Houston next week :)
The guy I bought my Ovation Custom from is a Hamer employee :) and I have great relationship with that guy, he is VERY helpful and a big muso (like many on her). Most Hamer's now though are an older/retro. field, which again I feel I have filled with my LP. I must admit years ago badly wanting a Hamer Scarab, but that was teenage days wishing I was in Def Leppard lol.
I find a closed mind is a terrible thing so in No way shape or form had I or have I made my mind up and started a "useless" thread.
I wanted to A. mess with Sam, cos it's just too much darned fun LOL and B.See if anyone had suggestions I had'nt thought of or heard of.
Thus far, I still have the JP6 at the top of my TRY IT list.
Nick
-
Thus far, I still have the JP6 at the top of my TRY IT list.
Nick
It looks like a nice little beastie (and so it should be for the price tag)
Rob..
-
^ if i had a stick i would shake it :x
i cant make any more suggestions, dont know enough about US made guitars.
-
Well
I look at it this way, my LP cost me alot more and this will be the ONLY guitar I will have bought brand spanking new.
Also the price difference from here to the states is somewhat making it look cheap LOL.
