Hey guys! For a long time, i've been wanting to check out some Juggernauts, since i have a great deal of respect for both Misha and Nolly's opinions of gear and tone. However when i see the description of the new Impulse pickups, they sound right up my alley as well. I play in Drop A, 6 string, in a progressive/dark style of metal, kinda Gojira meets Deftones with a bit of rythmic Monuments/Periphery thrown in for good measure. I've played Aftermaths for a while, and would like a slightly more neutral midrange, and not quite as sharp sounding (not that they're bad by any means).
But does anyone have experience with both, or just one or the other? And if so, how are they similar/how are they different?

They're very different pickups in both how they sound and behave.
The juggs are a lot more touch sensitive to play on, have a distinct midrange tone and more low-mids and lows. The Impulses feel a lot like the blackhawks in the way of compression, have a much flatter response across the mids and a top end a bit like the rebel yell, nothing really sticks out on them. Both are very tight. The impulses will definitely get you closer to the gojira/deftones sound.

Thanks for clearing up the differences for me. I think i'm gonna have to buy one of each and let them fight it out, haha.
As a side-note, I actually hadn't really given Northlane a listen before these pickups came out, and i gotta say its some pretty cool stuff, keep up the good work!

Dito. Had not heard about them before, but now they are starting to appear on my rotations.

I saw some Northlane vinyl in a friend's record shop the other day (Clarity Records).

To me it was one of those bands that were good, but did not grab me. Then I heard Quantum Flux. That was the key song. Still in my workout rotation, but I can picture them going into the main. A touch like Protest the Hero, though those guys are just my freaking heroes. Next time Northlane plays near me IŽll see if I canŽt make it to really see what is what....especially in the sound department. =9

I have a Juggerset in my Super Strat but after hearing a couple of clips of the impulse bridge pickup, this what the exact conclusion I came to.

When bare knuckles fight it out, the pocketbook always loses. Be forewarned, you will find another guitar to put the other set in.

Haha i don't mind the little bit of extra cash at the moment, since me and my band are recording our new album in 6 months, and i would like to try a lot of different stuff out before then! But so far, i've ordered a set of Impulses to go into my new custom guitar from Aviator. I'll probably get a set of jugs to go into my old Schecter Hellraiser to replace the Aftermaths i put in.

Based on this video I would probably go for the Impulse pickups.

You will not be disappointed with the change!

Hey all,
Tim recently linked me to this video which shows a guy with some serious chops do a few different things with the impulses.
