So I'm lacking a bit of something in my 57 reissue USA Strat. The pups are still stock and I only want BKP's to replace them.
I was looking into some stuff yesterday and I've found some info on what Gilmour used on his black strat. It is as follows:
NECK: Fender Fat 50's - Alnico V 6k ohm
MIDDLE: Fender Custom Shop 69 - Alnico V 5.8k ohm
BRIDGE: Seymour Duncan SSL-5 - Alnico V 13.3K ohm
Fat 50's - http://intl.fender.com/en-GB/guitar-bass-parts/pickups-and-preamps/custom-shop-fat-50s-solderless-stratocaster-pickups-3/
CS69 - http://intl.fender.com/en-GB/guitar-bass-parts/pickups-and-preamps/custom-shop-custom-69-strat-pickups-set-of-3/
SD SSL-5 - http://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/custom-staggered-strat
When I spoke to a kind gentleman at BKP today, he recommended the 63 Veneer board for neck and middle, and a Trilogy Suite in the bridge:
NECK: 63 Veneer Board - 5.8k ohm
MIDDLE: 63 Veneer Board - 5.8k ohm
BRIDGE: Trilogy Suite - 15.5k ohm
One thing I'd like to know, how close are they to the specs/pickups above that Gilmour himself ordered on his Custom Shop black strat?
For a start, the middle pickup matches the ohm (resistance??), but is that the only factor that can be considered when comparing pickups? I'm no expert and just interested to find out more.
Also, is this a good recommendation and what others would you recommend from the BKP range to get close to that black strat pickup configuration?
Many thanks

I would go with the suggested set but with a NECK Trilogy Suite on the bridge to improve balance.

i have the '63s in one of my strats and absolutely love them

There is also the type of wire used to consider
Neck: The Fat 50s use heavy formvar - so the 63 Veneer is the right type of wire for the neck.
Middle: The Fender Custom Shop 69 use plain enamel wire - so the Mother's Milk is the nearer at 5.7k is a nearer match to the CS69 middle pickup.
Bridge: I agree with Metale - going for a neck Trilogy for the SSL-5 tone would get nearer to the balance and remember to ask for the staggered magnet option.
