My cover band needs a name, and we cant think of anything good.. any suggestions? I'd be happy without a name but it'll be a cr@p introduction if they just say "And heres...the band..." hahaha
-
Josephs Technicoloured Dreamcoat Valets
OR....
JTDV for short...
or just JTD
-
"Finding Emo"?

-

Fresh Spleen Risotto ?
-
pfft thats cr@p. Anyway its not like were doing anything heavy so lay off anything that involves spleens and other body parts, dismemberment, death etc
-
Don't like my first link? Try these band names (http://www.amiright.com/names/cool/a.shtml).
-
Whoops I didnt notice the link. I'm sure we can find something from here, cheers :D
-
"Break Cover" - tells people you're a cover band and makes it sound like you mean business.
-
Run For Cover
going by the same principles as frog...
-
Try http://www.muzique.com/band.htm
How about Football Mum (or Mom if you are in the US)
Seeing Death Cab for Cutie can rob song titles from the Bonzos how about
Laughing blues
Labio-Dental Fricative
Mr Slaters Parrot
We Were Wrong
Dwarf Succulents
Strange Tongues
My favourite band name was "Claude Bottom and the Lion Tamers"
Rob...
-
There was a good covers band around here in the 90's called ' Ken Dodds Dads Dogs Dead'.
What about 'smell the glove'? Spinal tap!!!
-
hahaha ' Ken Dodds Dads Dogs Dead' how stupid
Laughing Blues is actually quite good although we dont do many bluesy numbers :P

Obvious question: So what do you do?
-
I shouldve mentioned that  Well at the minute the songs we have are:
brown sugar - rolling stones
losing my religion, the one i love- rem
old before i die - robbie williams (shameful i know but apparently the crowd love it  )
dont believe a word - thin lizzy
i predict a riot - kaiser cheifs (another one to add to the list of shame)
i bet you look good on the dancefloor - arctic monkeys
sonnet - the verve
shes electric, stand by me - oasis
vertigo - U2
californication - RHCP
I think thats all, well you get the jist of it, simple pop and light rock tunes really.
-
:D "The Headaches" :D
:D 8)
-
:o Is that implying that all the songs we do are cr@p?!?!?
ahahahah heard a funny one earlier, "Jive Turkey" its AWESOME! hahaha I want it as the name, gonna have to talk to the others about it
-
How about 'Covered:all' with the logo being a pun on this album cover:
?
-
Well he coulf have suggested the Futt Buckers
Rob...
-
Names with the word "cover" in sound so cheesy and typical :P
So far, Jive Turkey is winning. However another guy in the band thought "Deaf by Thirty" was good..bit cheesy though.

'Death By Thirty' and play thrash only.
-
haha I wish I could, when I get into an original band its gonna be that way 8) Or cheesy power metal.
-
Well I think we've settled on "Deaf by Thirty" which was on that site that Searcher posted.. I dont like it that much but so long as the musics good (which it actually is) then the name shouldnt matter..
Anyway, one question. Are cover bands allowed to have recordings of their covers? We are setting one up but not sure if we are allowed to post songs as and when we record them.

Technically I think you should pay performance royalties for cover songs, and if you record songs you have to pay royalties on any sales.
-
:D That`s a shame i liked "Jive Turkeys" ! :P
A lot of cover bands record demos. There are some venues who insist on demos in order to get gigs.
I would suggest that you don`t record full songs but record small snippets say intro, verse, bridge & chorus. Then you can record 7 - 8 songs as it were & this will help give Landlords & agents a much better idea of what you sound like, without taking up huge amounts of there time. Which there`ll apriciate.
:D 8)
-
haha I liked Jive Turkeys aswell.. Its not like we'd be selling copies of CDs with our covers on or whatever so I'm guessing its ok.. my mate who set up the myspace said it didnt say anything about covers in the t&c's..
-
I had an idea of a name Tom but looks like you don't need it but I will say it anyway."The Scruby"- named after a man who works with a friend of mine- Phil Scruby. I just liked the sound "Scruby"- a bit childish of me I know but mildly amusing- at least to me.
-
HAAH! is that pronounced.... 'scrooby'?
HAHA soooo cool
-
Well... if anyones interested we now have a BAD quality recording done with a single mic into my mates laptop on here -
http://www.myspace.com/deafbythirtymusic
I did the lead and harmony lines in Dont Believe a Word, and the rhythm parts in the other two... it all sounds cr@p with the single mic though  You get the idea though I guess. The bassists brother actually owns a studio so we can probably get some free recording time there anyway :D
-
I take it no one likes it then
-
Given that that was one mic that was pretty good- sounded competent and it is difficult to be constructed without being in the room with you listening to every bit.
-
I take it no one likes it then
:) It's good, Tom. I only listened to Money For Nothing though, because I don't much like the other songs, even when done by the original bands. Hey, I don't remember hearing the "little faggot with the earring and the makeup" line. Not politically correct these days, huh? ;)
-
oops I meant difficult to be constructive but I expect you realised that although I do find it difficult to be constructed too these days come to think of it.
-

I hate most of the songs we do to be honest, but I like playing in a band, plus I want the experience of gigs to get my confidence up for when I find an original band to be in. I dont know anything about the "faggot" line, I've only listened to the original a few times
-
Tom are you from Desborough then? I'd always assumed you were from Kettering. My sister lives in Desborough, and another mate of mine is from around there (he left because he pissed off the gypsies).
-
No I live in Loddington which I guess is nearer to Rothwell. I know what you mean about the bloody gypsies, pains in the f@cking arse!
