Hi!
I have a pair of BD in my Navigator CTM-480. This guitar is bright and is bottom and top heavy. A bit complex sounding. I am loving the BD bridge it's burly and just breaks the way I love in this guitar. Neck is also beautiful and vintagy. It's a bit dark sounding and I would need slightly more upper mids and fatness. I've changed the cap for 0.015 and it helped a bit. Still too dark. Tried Cold Sweat set before it was too bright. Didn't fit well in the setup. Crawler neck was fine but the bridge sound was odd in this guitar. Tried to change the height of pickup but nothing helped.
I tried also Nailbomb set but it was too modern and didn't have vintage magic I loved.
I need percussive neck but still vintagy and complex sounding. Slash Alnico II had a nice sound but it has a slight top end notch which i didn't like. I thought about trying pairing it with Lollar Imperial normal wind but not sure if they are the same output.

Riff Raff neck?

Can't say I've tried the Black Dog neck but I've tried the nailbomb neck and cold sweat neck and this sounds like a job for the excellent VHII neck. I'd say the VHII neck is just a neck pickup that would work well in any guitar.

I would go either Riff Raff neck or Abraxas neck. VHII neck may be too powerful and not bright enough.

just being curious, is there much difference between BD neck and RR neck?
and is the RR neck as bright as people say?

1) There is a marked difference in character. RR is definitely more vintage, BD more modern.
2) No. It is bright as a low wind PAF type A5 equipped pickup is bright. In no way is it single coil bright or even close. If you really want bright, look for a minihumbucker or a Firebird.
