Title: New PU's for a LP Custom
Post by: T4LJaredK on August 04, 2016, 02:14:21 AM
Hey guys.  I'm relatively new to the forum so please bare w/me.

I've got a '07 LP Custom SilverBurst and would love some input.  My signal chain is a Keeley 4 knob comp, a couple of od's(Maxon 808, Fulltone OCD), a couple of mod's and Delay's to a Boogie Mark V.  I currently have a couple of Anderson HC' in her (since '08), and just want to change it up.

Other guitars:  '12 Alex Lifeson LP w/Alnico Nailbomb set and a '89 Flying V w/Juggs.

Musical taste:  Kinda all over-Pumpkins, Soundgarden to Killswitch Engage, Opeth(fave), Alter Bridge, Tremonti, Periphery, & Monuments.
So I guess I'm looking for something that will give me the ability to do the prog but will have no problem being tight and able to track.  My initial thoughts are a C-bomb set, but am way open to suggestion.  Thanks!

What do you want out of this guitar that you don't get out of the Lifeson LP and the V? Might help with the recommendations a bit.

Have you checked out the rebel yell? or if you want something a bit tighter and modern maybe the impulse?

Hi Josh,

You're right-I should've been more specific.  The Lifeson and V are kinda my designated standard tuned guitars, where as the Custom I've always kept in drop-D, so I tend to write darker on it (ambient and heavy).  I've been going through the forum, trying to find someone w/a similar question/interest and so I've seen the C-bomb mentioned a good bit which is why it initially came to mind.  I thought the ceramic in the custom would make sense since it is a darker sounding guitar naturally. The alnico's sound great in the Lifeson which seems brighter than the Custom to my ears.  I hope I'm making sense.

To answer your other question, I haven't checked out the Rebel Yell yet.  I'm struggling w/coming to a decision I think cause the Custom is my #1.

The C-bomb would probably be a great option then unless you specifically want to try something a bit more different, in which case I'd recommend checking out the rebel yell, especially for a dark sounding LP.

Thanks for the suggestions Josh! I appreciate it! I will definitely do a little more research on the Rebel Yell! & the Impulse!

the holy diver is not a tight sounding pup per se, but it sounds pretty tight with the od808 and would work great with that setup and styles

I really liked that youtube clip of the Impulse in a Les Paul.
