Hiya,
I'm trying to work out a song at the moment, and it's being a right bugger. It seems to either use a non-standard tuning or maybe it's been sped-up/slowed-down or something.
I've always been utterly cr@p at working out songs by ear unless I know what tuning they're using, so has anyone got any tips/advice on the best approach?

Hmm. The only tip I can give you is what worked for me, but I know you're not gonna like it! Get to know how the different tunings sound and that way you can more easily recognise them when you hear 'em.
Yeah. That's all I have.

haha..
what song is it?
try finding a tab if you can... it often says the tuning on tabs..
this wont help for working out by ear but if your just desperate to work out/play this song it should work

Trouble is I think with this song it's more a case of A != 440 than a case of open tuning or tuned down, etc.

Rocket 69 by The Lee Harvey Oswald Band. Heard of them? ;)

Unfortunately, this band is far too obscure to have been included in any tab site that I've searched. :(

I've heard of the band, but not the song. So is it kind of a Sonic Youth-type crazy tuning fest, then? Can you post a clip? Maybe one of us here will figure something out.

It's more a sleazy/punky rock number.
Don't think it's a good idea to post copyrighted material publicly here on the BKP forum, but I'll PM you details of where to find it.
Cheers
