Hello fellow BKPers. Got an issue with my Ibanez RG, i've found a couple of high frets and concluded it needs a fret dress. (I can do the other parts of set up myself, just) So I phoned my local luthier/builder for a quote, £90 ish, seemed a bit expensive so looked around at others, unfortunatly nowhere near me, all quoting about a third of this. Do they vary that much? (quality and price)

^are you getting a refret or just a fret crown and stoning?
-
just a stone/crown/polish needed. I would expect to pay £90 or more for a refret. Thought it was a bit steep for a dress.

well, a luthier/repair guy here in northern ireland charged me £40 for a crown/stone and polish about 6 months ago (he said it'd be between £35 and £40), and quoted me £60 for a refret (a local guitar shop (who put me in touch with him) said i needed a refret, so I asked how much a refret would be when I phoned him)
I think the prices are a bit dearer on the mainland though, but not THAT much dearer, lol.

Fret dress and setup costs £80 from us
Refrets start at £125
Probably pretty much the same acrosss London I guess (high rents etc)
But good work does cost......choose carefully!

^yeah.
The guy i went to seemed to work in his garage. In the middle of the country. In northern ireland.
I suspect you could buy Fermanagh for the cost of Jonathan's workshop, lol... although the damn house prices here have shot up since the ceasefire, just around the time that I'm getting to the age where I should be looking at property...
man, peace (of sorts, lol) sucks!
