Title: EB JP6
Post by: Dakine on April 03, 2006, 04:38:03 PM
Well,
managed to track down a John Petrucci model Music man at the weekend.
It was in Houston Guitar Centre (on Westheimer) which US ppl. will know the chain.
It was/is all I hoped and am looking for.
I was not looking at a piezo equiped one (although one tried was) but have since changed my mind.
The piezo can be run alone, in stereo or mixed with the magnetic pups. So sounds are endless.
NOW, this is what BLOWS me away!
And in NO WAY is this a na na neh na na to UK residents (I will be one again soon myself). It just blows me away the difference.

I have been offered a loaded (bar JP inlays, which I do NOT want anyway) JP6 with piezo from one of the biggest EB dealers here. Shipping is free and NO tax as he is in different state to me.

Now, best price can find (thus far) on UK guitar same spec. is 2,052  gbp
I am offered one at $1,400

bearing in mind the exchange rate at this time is approx. 1.74%

This makes my US guitar cost 804 gbp, or better put 1,248 gbp cheaper than UK price!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS is daylight robbery!
In NO way shape or form is Tax,Import,Shipping making this more in UK. This has to be ALL profit. On which end I do not know, but this has to be one of the most outrageous price differences I have ever seen!

Yeah, I am damn lucky as can buy it at US price.
But I am thinking about being back in UK and all you guys/gals.
What the heck is wrong with this picture.

I am truly SHOCKED!
had to get missus who is finance exec. and qualified master Accountant to check my figures as was/am so shocked!

UK is getting SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ripped OFF!

Wow. Sooo unfair! Although, I'd rather be here in the UK rather than US, because various american accents annoy me   no offence to anyone..

Sounds cool for you!  :)

I know, North Americans can buy gear so damn cheaply.  I lived in Australia and the price of gear there was shocking, too.  The cost of living was extremely high for everything, actually.

I'm not sure if they still do it, but for a while, some of the local Canadian shops would match US prices, but in Canadian dollars!  That meant gear was even cheaper here than in the US.

I just cannot fathom the price difference. I save over what I am paying. That SHOULD be criminal to be honest!
Anyways, I just was totally shocked.

remember guys, shops earn 30% of the selling price in profit, so thats why you ALWAYS haggle

i played the non piezo one in a store here... total suckage. hated the neck, the trem, the pickups, the overall feel, its ugly and the color stinks...

in other words.. the last guitar i'd ever buy... you'd sooner see me with a pink ibanez than that.
i seriously have to say i liked his tone & guitar better when he was w/ ibanez

Totally understand that but the math SUCKS!

I can buy for 804 gbp but "advertised" online price through Euro store is 1,248 gbp MORE!
That aint no 30% :)

Horses for courses Davey
The neck is one of the BEST I have ever touched.
The pickups are body mounted and may not be to all tastes but can be changed.
I am NOT a fan of the colours so am looking at a plain white one.
I personally HATE Floyd trems. I much prefer my Axis Vintage type (wilkinson type) and can string change in minutes.
I HATE that it's a Sig guitar.
But, it fits my criteria. Playing neck of my Axis (unfinished gunoil) with width of my Jackson.
Anyway, I really liked it so there  :P

Friend of mine just picked one up, used, at a local music store and loves it. Those unfinished EB necks are amazing. As for the change in JP's tone, haven't heard much, that could be attributed to the guitar or one of the innumerable pieces of outboard gear.

Dakine's point about us getting well and truly shafted on prices is very true but I will not express my views as it would be inappropriate.

well I think it is possble that I'd be misconstrued as getting political and the forum is, at the end of the day, about pickups/guitars/music and a few digressions into humour. Talking of which, where is Sambo?

And btw
NOT gotten it yet as NOT sold mine yet :P

Nah, am sure there are alot more out there with CRAZY prices.
Just happaened upon this and it amazed me.

It has been cause of a few contentious threads on EB forum of late to. Mainly due to lack of guitars in UK to even see/try, let alone prices.

Don't forget shops get 30-50% and also teh UK importers/distributers want a piece too...usually the same so 100% increase before VAT is the case on some items!

agreed, and should that not be ILLEGAL!
To me it should be, over 100% markup on goods like that (especially with internet and ease of checking worldwide prices), scandalous in my book is all.

Music Man necks are among the best around for feel and playability, having owned three, I can certainly vouch for that.

If you like it, go for it and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. It is horses for courses in the guitar world, that's why I am grateful for so much choice. I impressed with the savings you are making as well... wonder how much they can do a Luke for?!

I AM buying one (bar unforseen problems). The post was merely as I was/am SHOCKED at the price difference and am upset at my countrymen "once again it seems" being royally ripped off

I dunno about the UK, but I know that with Australia, it wasn't the importers who were raising the prices so much; it was government taxes, prettty much entirely.
