Title: And yet another pickup request
Post by: Steve A Gillespie on November 25, 2016, 09:49:38 AM
A few years ago I bought a Godin Redline 1 because I was playing in a metal band and needed a simple no frills metal guitar. It did the job beautifully. But these days I don't play much metal at all. Now I'm fronting a rock band with a decidedly AC/DC edge to it (mid 70's Let There Be Rock / Powerage type sound) Generally my main guitar is a custom made sg/tele hybrid (alder body, maple neck, ebony fretboard, abraxas bridge) but I still like playing the Godin and would like to use it as a backup for when I snap a string (as I usually do during a show) But an emg is NOT suitable for our sound. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to help bring the Godin to a similar level of gain and bite. They'll never sound identica of coursel, different woods (maple and poplar body, rosewood fretboard on the Godin) and a different scale. The hybrid is a 25.5 like a Fender while the Godin is 24.75 a la Gibson. Any suggestions are welcome.

What does it sound like acoustically?  The last time someone mentioned a Godin Redline they said it was dark, but that might have been a different model.

If it is dark and you want that kind of sound and an output close to that of the Abraxas I would look at the Emerald bridge and a Riff Raff neck

If it is a brighter guitar I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure a riff raff bridge would still work pretty fine, but since you want similar bite to your other guitar, you could consider an emerald
it's the single humbucker model, right?

Yeah, single pickup. I was already leaning towards the Emerald. Thanks for the suggestions. Now to do some more research and then smash the piggy bank.

It's pretty dark. It's a single pickup model so unfortunately a neck pickup isn't an option. But that's two suggestions for the Emerald. Thanks.
