Title: Which pickups for a mahogany body/alder top and bolt on maple 7 string?
Post by: Alex6534 on November 29, 2016, 05:44:53 PM
As the title says, I'm getting a new 7 string that has a mahogany body with alder top and maple neck. The style I'm looking for is kind of Alter Bridge/Mark Tremonti, so versatile. I don't play djent, the heaviest I go is probably some periphery like riffs but that is on occasion. I play through a kemper with a mixture of Diezel Herbert/VH4 profiles for rhythm, boogie mark IIC for leads and fender twin for cleans. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have almost NEVER heard of an Alder TOP on a guitar.  Sounds like it might be very tonally balanced, all in all! I would go for the Alnico Warpig, as well.  I had one in a maple bolt-on/basswood-bodied 7-string and it sounded organic and aggressive, not cold and clinical like I ordinarily associate with "djent" tones.

Regards,
Alec

I would suggest the Nailbomb (ceramic) in the bridge, with a VHII in the neck. Amazing combo for a mahogany 7-string. They play well with Diezel and Mesa sounds too.
