Title: Ibanez RGDIX6 Pickup (Doom/Stoner/Sludge)
Post by: tylerjamessmith12 on January 06, 2017, 03:19:06 AM
Hello All, New here.

I'm looking for a pickup suggestion for an Ibanez RGD (Layered swamp ash body with Maple/Bubinga Neck.) I play mostly doom/stoner/sludgy stuff which is why I went for the 26.5 scale to help with downtuning, most of the guitar's time is spent in C or D Standard. I was thinking of an Alnico Warpig set, but I am undecided. In Ibanez's wisdom they only put a single volume knob and have the guitar pickup section routed for a triangular pickup attachment point...I'm not even sure how to wire a HH/3way switch/ single volume either. Anyway, do you have any other suggestions? Should I get a push pull Vol/Tone? I haven't found myself missing it with the current pickups. Coil-splitting isn't required.

I have an alnico Warpig set in an SG Special, and find it works well for that style

C standard with a 24.75" scale, 11-56 D'Addario XL117 string set with the substitution of a wound 19 as third (I only do this because it works better with the top-wrapped strings; in my Explorer I use the same strings and tuning with the stock plain 19 third).

If you are going with a Warpig set you might want to consider running the bridge pickup without a volume pot (you could possibly add a resistor if that ends up too bright) and run a volume pot for the neck pickup only.  I tend to find that I fiddle a bit with the neck volume but the bridge stays on full.  If I were to fiddle with anything else it would be my tone pot for the bridge
