Title: Need help with tele pickups...
Post by: dbrewerjr on January 12, 2017, 12:54:46 AM
I am about to build an alder body, maple neck telecaster......

I'm looking for some input as to what pickups.....
I want someting that willl do gritty powerful blues and stones type chords.....
I realize the brown sugar set kind of seems like the obvious choice but i would really appreciate some input from the forum.......I use 63 veneers in my main strat but for the tele i would like something with a bit more kick.....
Thanks in advance
db

Vintage fifties but for a tele full and pushing: Flat 50's.
More modern, yet with enough old school vibe: Boss-set. Mind you that the eq of the Boss and Brown Sugar are different. The latter one has more treble and less bass compared to the Boss which has a quite flat eq-voicing.

I have a lot of the tele pickups and think that the Flat 52 might be something you want to look at.  They aren't as powerful as the Flat 50's, but the neck pickup is very special.  The Brown Sugar bridge is pure Keith in a pickup.  The Boss bridge is more Roy Buchanan, a lot smother, but a really nice tone.

Thabks for the responses.....
Any thoughts on a Brown Sugar bridge and either a 52 or a yardbird neck?
I really like the raspy blues tone of the yardbird neck ......

I have an alder body, maple neck tele & have Boss pickups installed. I'm happy with them. They put ut a fair amount more power than a regular vintage voiced pickup.
