Title: Similar to Fender 57/62 strat pups?
Post by: PRSdave on February 06, 2017, 11:13:59 PM
I really like the Fender 57/62 neck pickup, there's a tone I have in my head of Hendrix playing Red House that they just nail. However, for the price I may as well get a set of BKPs! Anyone know which BKP set is similar - the 59 slab board set? They'd be going into a alder body/maple neck strat?

Specs of the Fender set as follows:

Original '57/'62 Stratocaster Pickups
Alnico v magnets
Formvar wire
DC Resistance 5.6K
Inductance 3.0 Henries

Actually, I think the body might be basswood ... the neck is definitely maple though  Any pickup recommendations for that Hendrix Red House/Machune Gun tone out of a neck pickup?

Pad Pend Series or Mother's Milk. The 63 Veneer Board has a bit more bass and balls compared to the 59 slabboard. The latter might do very well in a basswood guitar.

Thanks, I'm going to give the slabboard a try. I've two basswood strats, one bright, one warm ... I'll report back  ...

I just put some 63s in my strat (alder + maple) and these just about nail that tone with the right amp.
Great for John Mayer stuff as well.
The 63s have a certain life to them, a tonal Umami, that I haven't heard before in a pickup (well, maybe the Mule)
