Title: NGD - Fender content
Post by: gwEm on February 08, 2017, 11:31:41 AM
One of these hardtail Mustangs that Fender released last year. B-stock from Bax music.

Its a nice deep and slightly dark red colour.

I've already taken a drill and chisel to the body.. The bridge P90 actually sounded quite nice, the neck was a bit muddy. But I don't like the look of the P90s. I already planned to fit normal strat sized coils and just got this for the rosewood board and lovely red body.

So I've fitted a vintage Dimarzio SDS in the bridge and a Fender Mustang pickup in the neck. I'll probably dick about with it some more yet.

Its solidly built, would be good enough for gigging straight out the box actually.

Not sure why they painted the headstock in gloss, the rest of the neck is in satin.

Cool! Love the red.

Not quite my thing, but I do remember seeing Rory start a gig with a mustang... and that rocked - Bourbon was the set opener, it would have been 1983 or so. But I'm ashamed (now) to say that the word up and down the front row was "Why's he using a toy guitar?!! Where's the strat?".

Anyway, reminds me... I need to do a NGD myself (and I've probably missed a few over the last year!)

Gotta love that color. Where are these made btw? I recently had a Squier Jazz Bass in my hands and seems like Fender is producing in Indonesia as well now, is the Mexi Line still available?

the red is I think the only reason why the missus didn't throw the book at me when I came home. she likes it too.

though I did get the quizzical "i don't believe your making holes in a **new** guitar" look!

i'm having a thing at the moment for dual single coil pickup, rosewood board fenders at the moment. cyclone, jazzmaster, modded strats and duo-sonics. i don't actually like the mustang trem system at all, but this ones hardtail of course.

love the Rory story.

looks alot better with the pickups nature intended, I'll post a picture later

Haha!

Mine just about understands about replacing the pickups and pots/caps/etc now.

And... guess what!! On colours... We've got a YELLOW guitar here now - she hates yellow, and last year she was with me in Denmark St while I was trying a second hand LP Special with P90s - a particularly yellow yellow... and she said "buy it!"

Oh yeah - that looks loads better.

It just looks "right" somehow.

Originally, I wasn't sure what you were worrying about with the look of the P90s - partly cos it's not my sort of geetar anyway, I guess...

But like this, oh yes.

Congratulations on your latest buy. You just can't beat a MiM Fender for value. I've found them all to be extremely well made with the only thing in need of replacing being the pickups. I think that MiM Fenders and the PRS SE range must be the most bang for your buck I've ever been able to find in guitars. I'm not left with any great desire to upgrade to an American Fender and I have even less desire to get a PRS S2, especially as my American made Gibson is certainly no better made than the Fender (probably worse) and is a mile away from the build quality of the PRS SE. For all that, I still really love my Gibson

Looks great now, congrats! Also those new Squier Jazzmasters appeal to me. Lot of guitar for a nearly no money.

Thanks. I was actually trying to get rid of guitars, but now I find myself gasing for a Fender in Candy Apple Red

Nice one GwEm.  I have a Squier Duosonic with a couple of Apaches which I have in Nashville High strung mode.  It's great for texture and adding harmonic content.  The cheaper guitars nowadays are getting better and better.  I just picked up a PRS SE Zach Myers and a Gretsch 5420T and both of them are great (of course I had to change the pickups - TV Jones for the Gretsch - though the blacktop filtertrons sound good).

I've also just had Tim make me a set of Jaguar pickups for my Squier Bass VI - they are on the way to me at the moment.  I'm really looking forward to getting them in and hearing it.  I'm playing bass in a band at the moment and have been using my Bravewood 57 Precision with the BK 52 stagger pole precision pickup and flat wound strings.  It sounds awesome. as well as looking great, as it is shell pink, just like my real 66 precision.  I'd like to work in a song with the Bass VI too, but playing original blues and R&B doesn't give a lot of room for a 6 string bass!

Groovy looking guitar- as much as I like P90's I think your modification does improve things. Congrats.  Looks like there was something on the floor that caught everyone's attention ...or they could all be in the zone. I suspect the latter.
