Title: Best small modelling amp with good marshall tone
Post by: Muso on April 06, 2006, 11:05:54 AM
Hi guys

I mentioned before I'm looking at a very small and portable amp for carrying around with myself so i can jam easily. Anyway I really want something with a good marshall jcm800 model. The two amps I'm currently looking at are the line 6 spider mark 2 15 wat and the VOX AD15VT. Theres a real problem as in theres no music shops around Nottingham which stock both amps so I have no way of trying before I buy.
If anyone can let me know about these amps it would be great.

Cheers

i haven't tried the vox, but from what i hear, it gets a more "natural" sounding tone, so I'd assume it gets the better jcm800 tone.

Wait till someone who actually knows chimes in, though!

Suggest you check some of the clips in my post, which have all been done with a Vox Tonelab. This is the same modeling as in the Vox AD30VT and the like.

Hope this doesn't sound patronising, but if you want a Marshall Sound, why not buy a Marshall instead? The DSL or TSLs have a decent crunch channel which is designed to replicate exactly that tone.

There are no modern small marshall amps which have anywhere near the sound of a Jcm800, this is why I am going for modelling. I'm not going for the best tone as this is just a stop gap until I manage to a proper JCM800.
I will check out your sound clips when I get off work cheers hunter
