ok... so todays the day... machinehead will be graced with my unearthly, god-like presence... im gonna try loadsa stuff....
fireworks may start... the shop could be burnt down... and the owner may be put in hospital...
ill get back to you.
-
sweeeeeeeeeeet play it all sambo, PLAY IT ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL 8)
-
Hope you'll make the right choice.
Try them all, and if you're not sure, don't buy !!
Curious to see what it actually will be in the end, good luck !!!!
-
ok just got back...
here we go... i tried
a POD XT live.....
...
...
they had: no gt-8, no vox tonelab, no ENGL thunder............ no Korg's....
WHAT THE HELLL!!!!!
theres nothing saying "out of stock" or whatever on the site...
but they only had the POD.... bloody ridiculous....
anyway... next stop is Coda in stevenage... which will be probly be tomorrow or this weekend when i can get a lift....
about the POD though.... gave it a pretty lengthy test... with my gibbo
shocked by how little there actually was on there.... only about 20 banks of four... whereas the gt-8 has about 80 banks of four....
cleans were good...- as good as i would ever need anyway...
some nice reverb and cool delay as wel- delay was super simple to set as well you just go "click click" on this little switch to set the tempo...
pretty simple to use....
distortions were average... some were really nice but had a fair bit of 'fizz'/hum in the background which was annoying.... but a couple of nice tones none the less.... cool stompbox feature which is like arranging an effects pedal in the digital rig kidna thing... so you could have a fender twin light crunch going then tap the stompbox button (which you could set to say... a triple recto style thing)....
overall.... nice but nothing special... not a great deal of editing/tweaking can be done either... only the stompboxes, EQ and the effects....
want to try the others now definately

What did you play the XT through? What amp?
By the way in the mists of time I used to live in Letchworth - all I can say is - you gotta leave North Herts before you become a zombiefied old man who complains about his piles and how young people have no respect.
-
HAHAH!!!! so true... so so true. thats a great summary of the county lol
i played it through some Hughes and Kettner... solid state i think it was...
cant remember the model but the price was about £315 i think...
although knowing machinehead its real value could be closer to £50
was nice actually... but not enough gain for my liking.....
when i go to Coda im gonna try them all with headphones.... might get a better idea of what they would sound like through a PA.... how could i get a sound close to what it would be through a PA...? is there any way better than headphones?
-
err, a PA! 8)
How did the modelling of the XT sound through a real amp? Did the H&K colour it in anyway? Was the Line 6 speaker emulation cr@ppy through a 1x12 or did it work.
-
Sam where abouts in hertfordshire do you live? must be not to far from me if you can get to Coda and Machinehead. Thing is with Machine Head, they don't advertise out of stock things on their website. But if they don't have it, you can just ask when they'll get some in or get them to get some in. I do like Machine Head though, i get on with the owner pretty well and he lets me play his vintage strat without bugging me to be careful
-
Headphones Sammy boy. PA too of course but prolly asking wee bitty too much of the store there.
Cannot talk with conviction about the Korg but with the Boss I suggest cycling through the pre-sets before messing with anything. This will give a good overal idea of it's capabilities. I think also the pedal is set from new as volume so be warned. Always put some type of wah or anything else on it though.
Also, easy way to edit, ie amp/cab/pedal/effect.
While in a pre-set mode, pres function key and use the wheel to scan through diff. options. If like amp/cab for instance, press distortion switch (bottom left til it blinks) then use scroll wheel to scroll through the diff. pedals and hit button again to say on). Just a quick tip to make it testing easier as is complicated.

hmm
did you try a screamer?
-
guess you gotta make a trip to london denmark street area, that's GAS HEAVEN

With my bank account its GAS hell
Rob...
-
haha lol... denmark street may well happen if Coda doesnt have a particular thing in stock....
thanks nick- ill bear that in mind
and steve.. i live in Hitchin.... where abouts are you?
Machinehead are so inconsistent though thats the problem- some great prices some cr@p, some good service some cr@p.... the owners cool to some people not to others...
and plus my experience with the pickup fitting (£40 and they did it wrong first time round) pissed me off....
didnt try the screamer... will do at some point...
elliot... dunno how to answer your questions lol.... cant tell if it coloured it cause couldnt compare it to what the line 6 sounded like through full-range speakers or whatever..... speaker emulation wasnt bad (to my ears) although again it was through a combo/amp so that would influence it cause speaker emulation is just for going into a cab or speakers isnt it???? i dunno
once i get to coda ill know more... sorry
nothing was cr@p though... it was all decent at least and the POD and the amp worked well together....

I live in Hatfield. I make trips to machinehead every now and then. Hope to get a gig at Club 85 soon. The owner never used to be that great with me and my mates. But i guess you some how have to show him that you're serious about your equipment and you don't want to f*ck about. Alot of kids go in there to look cool with their mates and play green day and my chemical romance songs on some squier then just leave without buying anything.
-
yer i know what you mean...
hatfield eh... cool... been there a few times
would be amazing if you got a gig at club 85... thats like 5 minutes walk away from me.... would definately go

 it's ok, you can say Hatfield is a sh*t hole. The only interesting thing around here is the Cinema.
-
hahaha... nah youve got erm.... er... the galleria....
-
ok just been to Coda...
NO POD, GT-8 OR TONELAB!!!?!?!?!?!
AGRHAHROQRQOI£"B!!!!!!!
dammit
only other option is sound control i guess....
-
remember to BUY a ticket if you go
-
      8) :D
such a funny experience i have to say .... but my plan is to scan this 'receipt' thing i got and change the 'amount owed' to like £1.50 and get away with it.... i cant afford to shell out £20- I NEED A MULTI-FX!!!!
-
^i don't get it... EDIT: ah i get it now. Pwnt.
anyway, can you get to the wembley guitar centre? they had a pretty good selection last time i went....
-
probly could.... im pissed at band members cause they NEVER give me any notice on anything...
for instance... drummer phones up couple of mins ago and says
"band practice tomorrow".... its like... wtf....
and they invite singers round without asking me.... and im like the heart and soul of the band ( 8) ) its ludicrous....
anyway, might make a point by saying
"sorry cant go tomorrow- going to try out stuff in wembley"
