well...for the last 3 hours ive been trying to do my general studies coursework, which is "what is the impact of war on society?" but i have been failing miserably.
does anybody have anything that might help me, or know anything that might?
Cheers!

I dont have a clue, but isnt General Studies the same as Key Skills, ie pointless lesson that doesnt matter?

You could say something about inflation. Rising costs due to demand for money to pay for amunition, repairs to city buildings, homes and health care for the countries soldiers.

war sucks, normally.
effects:
ww2- women got into employment as all the men were off getting killed.
various people profiteer from it.
you get a lot of technological advances, because people's lives are on the line.
etc.

my girlfriend done that exam recently and got about 96%, just argue both sides of the argument like a bar-steward and you will pass.

depends whether the war affects day to day life( ot death) or whether it is in some remote part of the world. If we think WW2 ( and from Great Britains perspective) there was the total mobilisation for the war effort, conscription, shortages, daily danger, restrictions of movement, propaganda and not knowing if you'd live to see your family the next day
( both my parents lived in the south east and endured the bombing as chidren and therefore I have heard their sometimes horrific stories often enough)- having relatives in the services ( both my grandfathers who I never knew, served for pretty much the whole war). If the war is far away, unless it actually impacts upon you, it tends to be a case of "out of site out of mind" and the effects are minimal. War brings out the best and worst in people-mostly is a pointless affair and is usually conducted by people who have little say over the war in the first place. Like has been said, debate it in your mind and I am sure you will start to cook and you will breeze through.

That's an enormous topic! You'd want to consider these aspects: political and fiscal aspects, sociological ramifications, health issues, aftermath, etc. I'd look at it from the perspective of both the invading country and the invaded country, at least hypothetically, but also referencing historical examples.
I know that this doesn't help much, but a few web searches for those things should really get you started.

the impact of war on society is that the late night news becomes really cool

I have just spotted a number of careless typographical errors in my post- go easy on me as I have had a hard day. I am a keen historian and could rattle on about my specialist subjects ad nauseum. Mrs 38th is forever complaining about it.

Hmm, maybe you could do sth like WWI together with economic depression that were laying the grounds for extremist movements in Germany that led to Nazis and WWII?
-
Good point Hunter in fact I have just been reading a book which touches upon the end of WW1 and the armistice terms that certainly contributed to the rise of nationalism in Germany ( though I have some issues with the author of that book and the conclusions he draws). There is the pre war effect on society as well as the aftermath.WW1 is a good example because of the huge losses suffered by the combatants along with the "Spanish" flu outbreak in 1918 which killed as many as the actual fighting. And, of course, we have the current conflict and the effect upon our society.

:D War has reduced trust in poloticians. It also helped to bring about the destruction of the Class system. [ WW1 & WW2 ]
Women have been able to get out of the kitchen & into the work place. The technology boom that happend from WW2 led to mankind sending men to the moon. Von Browns rocket/V2.
For every WW2 a justifiable if regretable war there`s a Vietnam unjustifiable, pointless, waste of money & life. Take a look at what`s going on now in Iraq.

And what has it given us all this great technology? We're all craving for guitars made in '58 and NOS tubes made in '64, because of all the great new technology that wars have presented us :D

"War" is too broad a term. Why don't you tweak your breif? Some Wars bring societies together, instill feelings of patriotism and common ground. Some Wars divide and destroy societies. Alot of this depends on whether the war is fought overseas or on homeground. A governement can alienate itself from it's people when fighting abroad (Vietnam, Iraq, Falklands) where the local threat is minmal. This has a profound effect on society. A war fought on your doorstep will tend to unify the state. Safety in numbers and a natural instinct for protection under a leader.
In terms of advances in technology, it would be likely that the internet wouldn't have been possible until 2030 if it hadn't been for the two world wars and of course, not forgetting, the cold war. I guess that means we'd all be doing something more useful with our lives than posting comments in forums eh?!

:D Computers, leading to micro chip tech. How many things do you own that have micro-chips ?
Aircraft, leading to aviation industries, & air travel.
Chemicals & there civilian usages.
Food & storage of food. development of tin cans & packaging materials.
Textiles industrys, Clothing developments durability etc.
Lubricants, development of oils & greases for use in industry, cars, aircraft, ships etc
Practiculy everything that you use in this day & age has been redeveloped & made better through the wars.
NO i`m not a fan of war, just a realist........
