Tried another dozen or so guitars again last night, courtesy of PhilKing. (Thanx again, Phil, for the extended (and loud) guitar experiments!)
Played a bunch of Teles, Strats, and a few oddball pieces. One guitar has the weirdest switching I've ever seen, but was able to conjure up some KILLER tones.
I'd still think that the MQ is the most intriguing pickup I've heard to date.
First off, I got to play a '50-something Strat fitted with aged Apaches. WHOA. Stellar, stellar, stellar pickup and guitar!! In the neck, I think the Slowhand is hard to beat. The '60-something Strat, rosewood fingerboard, loaded with Irish Tours also sounded great, but I personally feel the Apaches ruled the ruins as far as single coils go. Not a lot of push, mind you, but a great clean tone!!
Comparing them to an old Strat with original pickups, I felt that the BKPs, whether Irish Tour or Apache, were less shrill sounding.
My personal favourite neck single coil at the moment is probably the Slowhand.
For Tele pups, I played the Pile Driver and a couple others, but none of the Teles really grabbed me, which is a shame because I really want to do a Zep-inspired Tele project!!
I got to spend a lot of quality time with Phil's Rebel Yell-loaded PRS as well. Once again, I was able to direct compare it to the Cold Sweat in my Gaijic guitar ... the Rebel Yell is a superb pickup!
We ended up bringing the PRS to the studio last night, and played BOTH guitars simultaneously for the first round through the set ... sounded killer!
Another fun-filled evening! How was yours? :)

Looks like you felt like a kid in a candy shop.
I can imagine less interesting evenings.
Phil! Come live next door to me! Please!

Interesting to hear your comments regarding the Apaches Ben. They are just stunning. So far as Tele's are concerned, I think that the Country Boys are to the Tele what Apaches are to the Strat.

My Tele's are waiting for LGS! I have some pickups coming there for the 57 tele (brown sugar bridge/slowhand neck). I think this will knck Ben's other sock off

Sounds like a great evening! I wished I lived there too!
Mine was ok I played my Charvel for about 5 hours after work until bed, stopping to eat, then back to it. I'm loving just playing at the moment. Guitars, I love em!
Looking forward to your opinions on the Brown Sugar p/u.
