Many thanks to Steve for taking time out to record a clean and dirty demo of the Rebel Yell humbucker set.
The clips were recorded with a LP standard direct into an 18w Roccaforte amp close miced with an SM57 mic for the dirty clip and direct to Protools for the clean.
-
omg why does it sound so damn GOOD>? If i had money i'd be having one of those and a LP from LGS!!
-
Sublime, I have to get a guitar with h/bs now.
-
Awesome
Any idea what mic pre Steve was using?
-
Ahhhh NUTS!
Now what! Cold Sweat,Mules,Rebel Yell. TOO MANY CHOICES!
And Painkiller to come, AGGGHHHH!
Although maybe not PK for my LP.
-
Fantastic!!
When will they be available to buy?
-
i REALLY loved the LEAD SOUND
just the way i wanted it to be
is it a set(neck and bridge?)?!?!
the lead on the dirty clip was recorded with the neck pup or just the bridge one?!

Wow, what a massive tone!!
-
Truly awesome! What a tone. It sounds huge! This pickup should sound incredible with some arena style delay in it. The cleans are also very impressive, it has a bit of a Tele vibe, I think.
This is giving me some serious GAS.
-
Liked the clean sample, loved the dirty one it sounds so big
I assume these examples will be making their way around the guitar mags as examples.
I hope they help you towards the success you deserve.
Rob...

Veeeery good sound and playing Steve:) I also found the drum sound on the dirty one really good. Was that live drums or sequencer. And if Seq, which set/loop?
-
Oh man they sound fantastic! 8) What a cool pair of clips!
Argh the gas, the gas! I'm already waking in the night thinking of Mississippi Queens!! What next? My heads already full of guitar ideas and I don't know what to do next

HAHAHA! At first I thought you said something else other than "Waking", that is spelt almost the same... you can work it out   That would be an unhealthy obsession with BKPs! Anyway the tone on these tracks is awesome, wonder how itd sound in a strat.

The Rebel Yell humbuckers do come in a set and the dirty clip featured both bridge and neck during the solo.
The official launch is at the LGS 5-7 May!
-
Will it come with 'ray gun' etching as standard? Or will it be an option?
-
THANKŽS
Q:)
-
Raygun etch is optional, as will be special purple and black zebras..........all standard options apply.

Hi Guys,
I'm glad i can demonstrate the Rebel Yell model pickup. There was nothing fancy used for the clip. Drums are a simple loop from Brutal Beats. The mic pre was Avalon, no heavy eq etc. Amp-18 watt Roccaforte combo http://www.roccaforteamps.com/index.htm. I am really proud to be a Bare Knuckle player. Tim has been great to deal with, even when i ordered my first set of Mules online (under the radar) just like any other punter. I know that Tim values each and every geetar player.
Thanks,
Steve Stevens

Hi Steve, great clip, and fantastic shows at Brixton and Download that I was lucky enough to attend last year.
p.s. Is it true that you are writing some music for a Japanese sporting event, their world cup football team or something? And if so, when is it released.
cheers
bub

Drums are a simple loop from Brutal Beats.
First I have to say it's cool for a "celebrity" to post in such a forum. This might bring you new fans, because all the dudes here share your opinion: BKPs ROCK!!!
Re the drumloops, they remind me so much of John Bonham ... I just had to order them.
-
I have to say that these are really my favorite BK's along with Black Dogs and Apaches. When I put them into the PRS they just lept out at me and with a small valve amp cranked there is instant second harmonic feedback (I was plugged into a Lexicon Signature 284 when I frist tried them). I got mine in November so I am not sure if there has been any changes since then, but all I can say is that between Steve and Tim, they have really come up with one of the most versatile pickups I have ever played. On the PRS 5 way switching, the split coil modes also give almost Fender like clean tones.
This is not to say that I don't like all the BK pickups - they all bring on the grin when you first hear them. It's just that with these, they bring it on each and every time you hear them. Mine are in an all mahogany PRS Standard from back in 1990, when they were all 24 neck/tremelo models. So hearing Steve's clips from a Les Paul also shows me how well they work in different woods.
Once again, thanks very much to Steve and Tim for putting the work in to make a great soundning pickup.
-
I'm generally a PAF-turf sorta player... normally, anyway. I usually don't like anything over, say about 9k for a bridge pickup for example (and I'm a rock player). But these have my attention.
I know there are many variables in capturing an overall 'sound' (interesting to hear Steve used the Avalon pre...I've heard nothing but great reports about this unit- though I personally haven't used one in the studio yet); so to go back and listen to a track and pinpoint the pickups (or anything else, singularly) as the primary factor can be misleading. Too many vairables in engineering and production, etc.
That being said- a great overall tone is the right way to start out. I really like what I heard in these clips, and may well sequester one of my Gibbys for a BKP installation with the "Rebel Yell's" just for grins.
Thanks for sharing, Steve. Very cool.
-
Amazing clips. Love the tone, especially on the clean one!! Beautiful full rounded clean.
I really want to have a go on these pups now. Gonna have to cut a wedding short to be there for the Sunday, but ill have to do it!
-
wow the heavy clip sounds way more heavy then I expected, the clips were both very cool. Now the ultimate test is to play then through a marshall!
-
Damn those were nice. Is anyone else starting to find that they want to buy more guitars just to put more BKs in them?
-

Yes! If I can do all the ideas i have I'll be like Phil!

IŽM PRETTY SURE ABOUT THAT
thats what (for the second time) just happened to me right now
iŽll be buying another guitar, and then, iŽll start the bare knuckle shop
tim, mr pig and all on the forum must be $%ing pissed of with all my unholy and intrincated(without counting the bad english translations) question about bkp tones.
Anyway, i guess my big gap/big wait will reward me in the and, cause iŽll be able to precisally choose all bkps for ALL my guitars.. cause, iŽll swap SOME pickups on my new guitars to know THEIR tone MORE. so, it will be an unholy amazing tonal process of knowledge!
ahahahahahahaah!!!!
iŽll have 4 guitars! 4 bkps.
although my fender is matching the duncans - C5/Jazz neck pretty well through a marshall valvestate 100(iŽm producing a death/thrash metal band from my city, iŽll be posting the record results as soon as possible), iŽm pretty sure a set of Unholy Mules, OR Nailblastingbombs will be required to fulfill My unholy "PAF MEETING Nasal fender building construction and sound " Tone!!!

:D They do sound good don`t they !!!
:D 8)
-
I don't see these pickups listed on the main website at all D:
-
i'm not really into heavy sounding stuff but hearing that heavy clip really makes me wanna play some seriously heavy sh*t!!!
those clips are fantastic. i have been thinking about the painkiller and what that would be like but now i HAVE to have a set of rebel yells as soon as i get the money. the frustration set in as soon as i listened to the clip, i want them now!!!
-
The Rebel Yell humbuckers will be officially released at the London Guitar Show, May 5-7 2006 hence why they're not up on the main site yet.
-
Ok, I listened to these a while ago, but only got round to posting now:
distortion was absolutely fantastic. the tone I go for, basically. Now i just need to get past my irrational dislike of signature gear, lol.
Clean seemed really good too, but I'd have preferred one without chorus, so you could hear it better.
Did anyone see download on channel 4 last night around 1 am? megadeth, anthrax, velvet revolver, HIM, and billy idol were all on it. The rest sucked (unless I've forgotten someone who rocked, lol).
Anyway, SS was playing a musicman axis (i think), is that BKP'ed? His tone was pretty sweet at the start of rebel yell, from what I remember, but then it got a load of chorus and other 80's stuff over it, so you couldn't really hear the tone any more...
And any chance of getting SS to tell Billy Idol not to take his shirt off, like, ever? I think I need couselling after that performance... :(
-
i saw that program... but only a bit of anthrax and then a band where the singer was flying around with four hooks in his back.... :?
anyway, didnt know those other cool bands were on there!!!  i would have watched it all if id known....
i think i already said something about these clips but ill just say again that they're sound reaaaaallly nice...
-
gonna be at Guilfest to see them live now. Steve, you'll see me right at the front, the drunk one who can't see. :D :drink:
-

yeah, the hooks bit was wack...

True enough: I just recently ordered the Flamenco a-Go-Go CD because, well, Steve plays BKPS (and so clearly is a man of taste) and, OK, the CD has only acoustic guitar, but I kinda dug the concept (being something of a fan of weird flamencoid things :)). Album hasn't arrived yet, but should do soon, hopefully!
That said, I just heard the RY clips, and man, they are monsters! I look forward to Steves next electric recordings featuring raging BKP action .... :)

Hey Steve I'm a huge fan! Your work with Bozzio Levin Stevens is at the top of my all time list for great all around musicianship and I absolutely love the guitar work. Thanks for the clips!!! They sound great like all of your work always does!
I am now seriously considering ordering a set. Your tone was always what I wanted out of my Les Paul. Got a '69 Major too - I bet these will kick serious butt with that!
Right now I have Gibson Burstbuckers... sound great clean, good Gary Moore tone etc. but when I turn up the gain, they feedback uncontrollably and these seem more versitile to begin with.
-

I'm in the same boat when it comes to Les Pauls. It's so hard to find pickups that aren't muddy etc. but I am def. getting a pair of these. I'll be sure to let you know what I think when i get them, and how they compare to BurstbuckerTs (the Gibson PAF replicas).
Damn those were nice. Is anyone else starting to find that they want to buy more guitars just to put more BKs in them?
I wish I had that kind of money, lol (but then again, I don't understand the words "buy junk" either)

From what I've heard, even the hotter BKPs have pretty good definition. I used to have the Gibson 498/490 pups (reasonably hottish) in my LP, and replaced with with the BKP Crawlers, which are about the same DC resistance but have much better defiinition. The RYs are reasonably hot too, I think, but based on the clips seem very well defined!

They apparently did the smart thing and used a not-so-large/strong magnet like many. Seymour Duncan has a tendency to use magnets that are either too strong or large for what they should be and thus it sounds like an hoarde of people who ate way too many beans are all in the room with you... which is not a good thing!
-
Yo again tim, some sweet demo's there! Man, i wish i could play like that! I'll have to start using my metronome more, lol! :D
-
Very cool sounding pickups! 8)
I'm torn between these and the Mules now. Are both pickups being used on the clean clip (like the heavy clip)?
-
The clean clip is pure bridge whereas the dirty clip uses both bridge and neck.
-
DAMN THAT SOUNDS HUGE. HUGE
-
SS is a hugely underrated player. That dirty solo was lovely. It was a bit like Larry Carlton had just got real dirty.
-
both clean and dirty clips are awesome, I saw him playing live at SBSW in Austin. Texas 2005, he was the guitarist in Billy Idol's band. One of the best gigs I've ever been too, if not the best in my entire life.
-
what speaker use steve ?
-
Mmmm. The most throaty pickup ever. Sounds wylde. I cant wait to take delivery of the set I just ordered.
-
I just gave a listen to th SS clips and now I am rethinkin the Warpig. I may have to go with a matched set of SS-RY; awsome sound.
-
Hey broken its me Jimi here from UGF.
I see your checking out the pups to find some for your project SG.
Thats pretty sweet.
I am looking for some to swap out my stock strat pups for.
I have been looking for some pickups to emulate those SRV and Rory Gallagher tones and so far I am definately leaning towards a set of Irish Tours.
I am just gonna see if I can get a request for a sound sample of that rory sound to validate my choice.
Good luck on your search Broken,
And I will see ya on UGF,
RorySRV (Jimi)

Hey hey hey. These pups are SWEET! I'm leaning towards th Warpigs but the RY sound good as well. I think your Strat can do well with the Irish Tours, I keep going back and forth but I will soon have to make a choice. I'm still on the UGF but I'm ov'er ere now too! Good to hear from you.
-
I've ordered a RY for my bridge based on SS's clips : both the distorted and clean sounds are amazing. I am curious how the distorted will sound not multitracked ofcourse :D
I already thought SS's tone on the BLS cd's was absolutely great, but this clip even beats that, without the mastering.
Looking forward to trying this one out. Thanks Tim and Steve.

Awsome the dirty solo sounds like it wants to rule the world!
While the clean solo sounds like it just wants a holidy with its grand children, -very peacful and nice.

Rebell Yell go at it again and this time with a Suhr Badger

Dean Caddy, i'm really leaning towards the rebels yells. although i've got a few months before the guitar is ready.

This is one of best guitar sounds I've ever listened!!!
Anyone have some idea with tube he use in his amp??
In the web-site says: it comes with 6V6/ EC83 / 5AR4 (retification, I think), but can run with all output tubes...
-
anyone put one of these in a telecaster (bridge position) ?
i'm REALLY tempted
-
Awesome sample's from Steve Stevens album "Memory Crash" here!
http://www.magnacarta.net/stevestevens/street.html
Release date 1st March.
The Les Paul on the album cover is loaded with BKP's
-
sweet baby jesus that was good.
I am seriously considering investing in some of these!
My only problem is that theyre not quite as bright as id like, could that be rectified just by turning the treble on the amp up?
-
It can help, but there's no need to boost it excessively, the have a real growl when you crank your amp. We recorded with my RYs last night, and it's amazing the different types of attack I can get with them. Simply amazing.
-
Amazing! Me waaaaant!!!
-
Anyone happen to have a clip of the 7-string model of the RY that they'd be willing to share here? If it was in a mahogany bodied seven, that would be ideal. Thanks!
Regards,
Jeff

That sounds awesome. I definitely want these!

These pickups have real mojo and they sound like they were made for a fairly new solid body Les Paul Standard. I get a great tone out of my Dual Rectifier running the red channel with the tone controls at noon except for presence (10:00) and gain (1:30 - 2:00). I used to run the gain down at 12:00 but the Rebel Yells have such excellent note separation that I can pour on the gain and the tone is still crisp, defined, and clear. Good times! Now I run the gain on the high side and dial back the volume knob for crunch!
